  • Good budget printer. Needs a few upgrades.
Size: Anycubic Kobra 2 Pro
The media could not be loaded. This is my 5th FDM printer, I was looking to add another to my printing business and size didn’t matter so wanted to try one by AnyCubic. The printer is boxed nicely and is easy to unpack. Setup is straight forward with only 8 bolts. The hardware seems of better quality then my other printers, and the tools were better as well. The wrenches are probably what impressed me the most being 4” long (about) and twice as thick as normal. I’ll be tossing my other cheap ones to keep these on hand. I would like to see some zip ties included to secure the cabling better. I really like the XT60 connectors on it. The limiting switches I’m not a huge fan of how they connect, but it works. The switch nearest the screen was very tight on mine so I undid the wrap and reran it. I notice the power and a bundle of wires are quite close to the bed limiter and need to be up tied out of the way. The bundle does hit the bed. I’ll need to address this. Install was simple. Instructions were very clear. Now for printing. When I turned it on the first thing I noticed was it doesn’t have a silent board. This thing sounds like your run of the mill 3D printer and is the loudest of the 6 that I have. I usually have my newest printer running prints next to be for a week before relocating it to the shop. Not the case for this one. I’ll be moving it because of the noise. -1 star Anycubic for this. Printer in this current range of around $200 should be silent. I believe this printer originally released closer under $200 per some reviews I’ve read. On to print quality. The owl it printed was a hot mess once it got to the beak area. I believe that’s because it printed hollow and the included filament- I need to look into that. The filament is labeled as PLA+. I got a lot of stringing with it, and it’s spooled super tight. I moved the filament holder to the front just to hold it for now. I ended up switching to some leftover Hatchbox filament for my Benchy and got a better print. I provided a video on leveling the gantry as mine as expected was loose. Oh, and the profiles they provide on the no brand SD card for Cura don’t work. I ended up comparing it to the .1 profile Cura had and made some adjustments. Going to need some fine tubing for this. Thing I liked: Easy assembly, good instructions Good hardware and tools Has a corner level option in the menu which speeds things along Seems to print decently. I ran a print though this and my Ender 3 and this actually came out better. Things I don’t like, none of which affect the printing Non-silent stepper drivers Bed springs are so skinny they bind. Going to try my upgraded Ender springs. (Tried and Ender springs worked great!) Some poor cable management (fixed with zip ties) Generic PSU No name SD card (not sure how many r/w it will take but works fine) Cura profiles on sd card don’t seem to work Would I recommend this printer? For the right price, yes. ... show more

  • Great value for a beginner printer
Size: Anycubic Kobra 2 Neo
This is my 6th FDM printer in the past few 5 or 6 years. I wanted something to print things while my CR-10 is printing big stuff, so bed size was not as important as price and speed. I will no longer use a printer that does not have: 1. Direct drive extruder 2. Magnetic build plate Well, the Neo 2 has both. Standard. Assembly was so easy. Half of the steps of an Ender-3 and only 7 bolts for the entire thing because everything was pre-assembled. An 8 year old with lego experience could assemble this guy in 20 minutes or less. Note - the wire harness has one plug that is not used, the instructions conveniently leave that out of the manual (they don't tell you to put it anywhere, its just ... there). The menu on the control module leave a bit to be desired, as it is entirely ison-based. Still, responsive and adequate. The prints are fast and the quality is awesome. Tested against my CR-10 it prints about 2-3x factor set at 150 mm/sec. Self leveling means I can set it and forget it - I don't have to play the "watch to see if I need to tweak X-axis by 0.99mm or not" game. It is quiet. Although not as quiet as an Ender with the quiet motherboard, its between that and an unmodified Ender - so thats nice. It does everything I wanted it to do, at a sub $200 pricepoint. It probably lacks the support community the Ender-3 has garnered and it likely will not have as many modifications available, with a magentic build plate, self-leveling, and direct drive extruder I cant think of anything I'd add right away, anyhow. ... show more

  • Incredible first time printer buy.
So I got this for my husband for valentines day, so I'll let him write the review: This printer is a FANTASTIC first time user printer. The print quality I'd give a 4/5 instead of a 5/5 simply because the extruder struggles to maintain a smooth surface even with a lower layer height. It's nothing that a little sanding doesn't fix, but it's something to mention. Here are my thoughts on it: It's extremely easy to use, just follow the instructions for setup. It struggles with low quality prints, so make sure the models you get are of decent quality. If you find that you're getting gaps or that it's peeling up from the plate with PLA, change the filament settings in the anycubic software (separate download) to increase the bed temperature to 60C degrees instead of 40C degrees, and slow the print speed down from 150mm/s to 100mm/s. It also prints more consistently at that speed, I've noticed. It doesn't take up much space at all, but make sure that you place it on a VERY sturdy desk/tabletop. My desk wobbles ever so slightly and the kinetic motion of the print head, especially in short strokes, makes it wobble a bit, which could affect your prints. This unit has tons of adjustments and even modifications and addons. My unit came without a PEI plate (The bed plate), but customer service promptly mailed me one, so that's a +1 point for customer service. They also have a dedicated tech support portal if you have any other issues. For a sub $250 printer, this is an EXCELLENT value if you're just getting into 3D printing. I'm looking forward to making some cool stuff with it! ... show more
