  • must have tool for bonfires
Size: High
I can't believe I didn't buy this sooner. Instead of buying kindling sticks, I'm not making my own. The use of this tool is very intuitive, and it's sturdy. I was able to anchor it down with no issues and it chopped the wood with no problems. Anyone who has been buying kindling sticks, DON'T, get this instead; it's worth the investment. ... show more

  • really makes my work easier,
Size: Small
at first I ordered this out of curiosity but after I used it it turned out that it really made my work easier for splitting wood, this tool has thick and sturdy iron, I think at this price for something this good it's really very cheap.

  • Functional and effective.
Size: High
First off, I like the size of this splitter. The height is pretty good once it's mounted on something and the width of the ring works for moderately sized split logs. I recommend four anchors instead of the two it is prepared for and I strongly recommend a heavier duty anchor than what they sent. Mine had a deflection in the blade on arrival, but it still worked as designed. ... show more

  • This thing is nifty
Size: High
I love the concept of this! It’s been really helpful for having my son help split wood. It’s pretty fool proof and does the job. Just keep in mind they only certain size logs can go in it and it’s rather small. I’d say its sole purpose would be kindling and nothing more. It also, is not very sharp at all. Im It sure if it’s supposed to be but I think I’ll sharpen it. I do wish it was a bit bigger but that’s just because it’s a breeze to use, I’d like one for even bigger logs. It’s heavy and seems well made, I will try and come back and update this to see how it holds up through this winter. ... show more

  • Not bad if you are splitting VERY dry wood
Size: Small
On the whole, this a solid kindling splitter if you are trying to split very dry pieces. It's well constructed and all the welds seem to be right and well done. It's a simple tool to use: Find a flat solid surface and place/attach the splitter. Place your small log to break into kindling on top of the wedge. Smack the log with a hammer or the back of your axe, and it should, in theory, burst apart making for easy to burn pieces. However, for me, it really wasn't what I was hoping for. I don't really need help breaking down kindling as a hatchet will typically break apart pieces of wood fast enough for my needs. I was I was hoping for was to be able to use it to start the splitting process for slightly larger pieces so that I could finish them with an axe. Unfortunately, even with a blow from a short handled 10lb sledgehammer couldn't get it to bite deep enough to start the splitting process on some 4" in diameter oak. I realize that oak is a hard wood, and I wasn't thinking it would split it in twain, but I couldn't even get it to start. Now, I'm not going to ding this product for more a star over something that is outside of its intended use, but I was a bit disappointed. For those wanting a safe and quick way to break apart really small dry logs for burning, I think this will do wonderfully. Just keep in mind it isn't a real force multiplier. ... show more

  • Wood Splitter
Size: High
I decided to order this, even though my brother was trying to help me split wood it is not so easy! I figured this might help me create some smaller pieces for our wood burning fireplace. Like some of the other reviews mention, it works better when secured. Overall it does the job and makes it easier for me! Decent for the price as well. ... show more

  • Small size - good for kindling only
Size: High
This wood splitter is somewhat helpful, however, I believe that it is capable of splitting only small logs 2" in diameter and no longer than 12" long. Good for for kindling only - maybe for camping. Standard firewood is about 16" long. If you try to split a standard size log at 16" it would bottom out in this splitter. (see photo). I used a 40 ounce blacksmith hammer on a 2" log about 16" long. As you can see, the log did not split all the way through to the top. I tilted the splitter by grabbing the support ring at the top which allowed for additional space at the bottom. Once I struck the log the rest of the way through the log split completely. I believe that this splitter is designed well for logs that are no more than 2" in diameter and no longer than 12" long. Good for camping and cutting kindling, but not adequate enough to support a log that is 6.3". The seller indicates the measurement of the ring can support a 6.3 log. Which may be true, but it is not capable of "splitting" that size log. For that reason, I am deducting a star. The seller does not offer any description of the length of the log nor the actual diameter it can handle. To be able to handle a log 6.3" in diameter would take a much stronger and heavier log splitter. For the intent of cutting kindling, I think this is a fair small log splitter for that purpose only. ... show more
