  • Buy the XR module-- not the sync 2
I've had the sync 2 with 3rd gen camera and mini cameras for several years. It worked well for what I needed. Not always the best at capturing video but worked. My problem happened when I upgraded my home Xfinity Comcast wifi modem to the XB8. I don't know lot about this technology but it is a triband with faster speeds. The sync 2 would not hook to the wifi with the new modem. I tried all the steps listed in their help area several times. No luck. I wrote blinkcustomer service. First, they didn't read my email. They would just send me emails ever couple days telling me to do the things I already did. I started googling and found this is a problem with several models of xfinity modems. I ordered the new XR sync module. It worked with my new wifi and set up easily. It also worked with my older cameras. This is really not a review of the camera abilities; really just to advise to buy new model vs sync 2 model. I appreciate not having to pay the monthly fee to hold video. The sync module does it and will pay for itself in 6 months. If you are going to have 24 hr constant recording you'll need the subscription. ... show more

  • Longer distance than rated
I have my sync module mounted on a pole outside. One of my cameras is about 550’ away through dense trees, it communicates great and never looses signal. I had another camera down by the pond at about 300’ but is down in a creek bed and a the ground blocks the line of sight to the sync module. It seems to be great for penetrating trees, but ground it does not do so great. At this point I have had my XR up for nearly 2 months. If anyone is looking for a clear answer on how they operate. The XR module when put into XR OR XR+ mode, reduced the mbps rating and in turn reduces the video quality, however, most of the footage is still plenty clear. The camera no longer needs direct access to the WiFi network, but instead, it uses the XR module as its only point of contact and then the XR module does all the work with the WiFi. I think this is how blink should have set themselves up to begin with. Granted, you can only run 2 cameras in XR mode. ... show more

  • Easy set-up
I needed to replace my first gen sync module due to upgrading my home WiFi. I was worried that this module wouldn’t work with the existing 6 camera system and that it would be a hassle to install/ reinstall all the cameras. Boy was I wrong! I followed the included instructions and in less than 3 minutes the module was working on the new WiFi and all the cameras were functioning as though there wasn’t any changes! Over this year I’ll be upgrading the cameras to newer ones and sending a long range one as well. We’ve used blink cameras since 2019 and they work flawlessly. I can/ will highly recommend them! ... show more

  • Larger then the old Sync module 2.
I'm totally blind. ** Updated Jan 2025 after having it for 2 or so month. Like I said in my initial review. This module has the same sissue as the Sink 2 module as far as if you use a local account only and have a Blink Doorbell along with outdoor 4 cameras all on the same system. What happens is from time to time, if you have the system armd! Then motion is detected at the Video doorbell it will act like one of the outdoor 4 cameras triggered and you'll be lucky if anything gets recorded at all and if so, the wrong camera records. The reverse is also true if the outdoor 4 camera records, it will say the Video doorbell triggered and again, you will be lucky if anything records. Blink tech support was useless at trouble fishing. Like I said, same issue on this module as the older one. The way I found this and found it quickly is I have my Echo's announce when the doorbell detects motion and once or twice a day! The outdoor 4 cameras would get triggered by me and it would say motion detected at the Video doorbell. The reverse could happen as well ware I walked in front of the doorbell taking my guidedog out and I would hear nothing from the Echo's and when checking the notification are on the phone it would say the outdoor 4 camera was triggered. I done my own testing and found out you shouldn't have the Blind Video doorbell and the outdoor 4 camera on the same Sink module at all regardless of the module. If you do, you will find from time to time the above. The Blind Video doorbell must be on a different system. Doing it this away being I had a Sink 2 module just sitting around to start with! Fixed the issue and things are much better. The Outdoor 4 cameras are on there own system. Blink should tell people about the issue with The Blink Video Doorbell and the outdoor 4 cameras being on the same system and what kind of issue you could run into from time to time using a local account only. Still wouldn't use this as my only security system do to it requiring AC power and active internet in order to work. ** initial review. I got this in hope it will be better than the old Sync Module 2 system. The first things I did notice when I got this out of the box. The module is larger than the old one as far as it is a larer square. It also doesn't feel a cheep as far as in your hand. The bottom of the module has an silacon/rubber around the edging of it. So it doesn't slide as easy. The reset button is also easier to press and hold if you need to. The power brick is the same as the old one. Don't know why they didn't include a USB C power brich. There is a USB A male to USB C Male cable in the box as far as a short one if you need it. The reset button is on the bottom of the unit just under ware the USB C plugs in. The Micro SD card slot is on the side of the unit. I do not have a paied account to start with. So I ahve a total of 5 camera's feeding to the Sync module. hopefully this module is better at keeping and maintaining connections to the camrea's than the old Sync 2 module was able to do. Only time will tell on that. The old module from time to time would have a camera trigger and it would report the wrong camera and not record anything. What I noticed it looked to always be one of the outdoor 4 camera's that mostly had issues. From time to time, the Video doorbell would get triggered and it would say it was one of the outdoor 4 camera's when it wasn't. Again, in this case! Nothing would get recorded. So that is why I'm giving it 3 stars out of 5 at this point in time. Not really impressed with the Blink stuff. To me, I wouldn't depend on it for Security at all if you do not have a plan. It is more of a TOY and not to be depended on at this point in time. Yes the Camera's report 4 bars for Wi-Fi and to the Sync module. As far as that goes, I've even had the Sync 2 module mess up one USB drive. So hopefully this sinc module is a better design! But like I said, only time will tell that. Now if the camera's themselves had a Micro SD card in them! I would be a muc hhappyer person being the outdoor 4 and Video doorbell run off of battery to start with. No worry at that point of no recording if the power goes out to the Sinc module and or no internet service. But what do you expect for a low end cheap system. ... show more
