  • Big Butterflies
Color: Layering butterfly & die cut
These are nice. Stencils and dies are very good. But they are much larger than I expected. I guess I overlooked any measurements if they were in the description. I’ll just use them differently than I was planning.

  • Beautiful and v.good, but NOT great!
Color: Layering butterfly & die cut
This set of layering stencils and diecuts are beautiful, however they lack a stamp to define the butterflies.

  • Oh My, fantastic.
A little bit of a learning curve but once mastered the card are over the top fab. I have made cards for family and friends and they all think I am a genius. I owe it all to the masterful work of the person who invented this mechanism. She is the genius.

  • pretty, but missing something and they don't line up
Color: Layering butterfly & die cut
First let me just say that even though they are not exactly what they look like they should be, they are usable and pretty. It was difficult to find a tutorial for these, and you wouldn't think you really need one until you start to decide your color choices for each layer. Looking at the sample that came with this set, shown as the grey and teal butterflies (butterfly stencil 2 image) I thought it was simple enough. Choose a light color (grey in the sample) for layer 1, the full butterfly, then choose a darker color for the second layer (dark blue in the sample image), and the bright color for the third layer (teal in the sample) - however, that is NOT the case! The third layer will not show unless you use a pigment ink over the top of other inks -That really should be stated somewhere- or you use a color like black as I did in the image of oranges and black (butterfly stencil 1). Ok, no worries, I went ahead and tried it again with pigment ink for layer 3 trying to follow the example given (butterfly stencil 2) and I achieved it as seen in the blue one I cut out. (butterfly image 4) I was frustrated as the registration marks - a hole in two diagonal corners of each stencil - did not ALL line up and when the couple that did line up, the butterflies did not line up. You can see this best in the image (butterfly stencil 1) where I have the orange black ones numbered. That was USING the registration marks! I was also frustrated by the images on the sample being different than the stencils themselves. It's as if there is a layer missing. That is just my detailed brain unable to look past a simple error in production I am sure. The last issue I had was why I numbered the first ones I made (orange and black) and the sample image (grey and teal) in order to see the variations and why I was getting confused. My final attempt (the orange, yellow and pink butterflies - butterfly stencil 3) was me taking what I learned and creating a sheet of lovely butterflies. It was a good couple of hours of playing and the results are nice. Without INSTRUCTIONS, here is what I did: Step one, ignore the registration marks, they don't work. Step two, use my lightest color choice to color layer one - dye based ink. Step three, use a slightly darker color to do layer two - dye based ink. Step three, use a yellow pigment ink, coloring it two times for the most intense color result for layer three. Step four, dry that really well. Step five, use a glitter paste through the stencil layer 4 to add the body to all the butterflies except one (the upper right butterfly) because if I did it would cover up the details put there by layer 3 - unsure why those details are on that layer. Step six, wait for that to dry completely. Step seven, cut the butterflies away from each other so you can use the dies to cut them out. They are too close to each other to just run them all through in one pass like this. as you see in the final image, they look pretty good. Not perfect, but this is crafting my friends!
