before you start this install. make sure you wrap something around both ends of the canvas to keep it from unrolling, i used two bungee cords, then lay the awning on a large flat surface or two sawhorses.to install, remove the end bracket, loosen the bolt on the square bracket, tap to remove from the end. unscrew the hand crank assembly. there is a Phillips head screw underneath the tube near the end. remove this screw. then you can use vise grips to grip the round metal post on the end of the tube. pull gently and remove. before you install the green motor assembly. there is a plastic cog like wheel, install this on the opposite end of the motor from the corded end. then use the black clip to clip the wheel onto the end so it will not come loose upon installation,.push motor tube into assembly gently, until seated properly. it must fit tight against the alum tube. then install bent metal clip on the square end of the motor, using one of the metal pins as shown in diagram #3, bend the ends around. then you can re-install the square bracket on the end, using the long machine bolts that you removed, they may be too long. you might have to find shorter machine screws. and screw them into the bent metal bracket. when you install the motor make sure the adjustment area is accessable, for adjustments. you will need to make sure to have an electrical plug near by. your cord is 18' long. I will be doing the adjustments another day. everyone is right, actual instructions would be very helpful. I thank the gentlemen that gave some instructions earlier, they were helpful. I wanted to give more detail.i tested the motor and it extended and retracted, just need to adjust the opening and closing. by the way I installed under the roof instead of on a wall. so the pitch of the roof will affect the front height, if you are mounting under the roof rafters, you will need to adjust the angle of the brackets or your awning will very low in the front when extended. ... show more

  • Say What The correct cord length
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. This is One of the best deals on Amazon You do you have to have a brain it is a great universal motor assembly you may have to use parts off your old one and compromise Its not going to be yhe same as yours But for $100 two hours time works perfect

  • worked fine, but instructions were very bad
like the other reviewers, I had a hard time with figuring out the instructions. They were incomplete (didn't show the critical sleeves that I needed to slide on to make it work on my system). And the first instruction just shows a hack saw cutting the existing awning roll. It took a leap of faith to cut up my existing roller, but it turned out OK... I'll probably get a couple more for my other windows. Great deal for the price ... show more

  • I couldn't live without this!
I bought this to install with my ALEKO awning. It works way better than I had expected. I didn't have much hope, since it was so cheap, but I can assure you it is very easy to install, easy to set, and easy to use. In 3 years of daily opening and closing, this has never let me down. Trust me, using the long rod to open and close the awning will get old!!! Pro tip: before installing, make sure to bungee the existing awning closed. Then plug in this motor and push the open and close button. From there, make your adjustments and get it to "stop" in the closed position. Install as usual, then hit the open button and you can fine tune how far you want it open. It is really pretty simple. ... show more

  • Great motor! Great Price!
This motor is great. It is very powerful and makes opening my awning simple. The instructions or worthless so I had to figure it out on my own. It was pretty sime to install because I am handy. However i would not recommend this to someone that is a beginner.

  • Seems like they have a high gear ratio so move slowly ...
I bought two of these and they work perfectly after about a month. Sure nicer than the daily manual cranking in and out we had been doing. Seems like they have a high gear ratio so move slowly with plenty of torque. My awnings are actually a different brand with a larger diameter tube in which to mount the motor than the Alekos. I carefully made diameter adapters for both ends of the motor for a good snug fit and all seems good. I would not recommend that unless you are good at fabricating. The fixed side of the motor mount fit directly as is. Contrary to some other reviews, there are instructions. Once you get past the typical laughable translations, most of it can be figured out. The limit adjustments are confusing and tweaky, but worked well once I had a handle on it. Before inserting the motor in the tube, I plugged it in and played with the rotation directions and limits. Also, before inserting the motor all the way, be sure that it is in between the limits, i.e. it will turn either direction. ... show more

  • a lot of people do not like the fact that the instructions are very poor
a lot of people do not like the fact that the instructions are very poor. and I can relate to that. However, for the price, for me, that is not an issue. after researching and reading posting after posting, I think it was an easy install. I converted my manual awning to a motorized. my awning is not an Aleko. the tube on my awning is 78mm dia which is about 15 mm bigger than what the aleko motor adapters (driver and crown) were designed for. I had to apply duct tape over the driver and the crown in order to have a nice fit inside the roller tube to make sure the key is engaged properly. It is not a plug and play in my experience but very pleased with the results. I had to play around with it in order to program the remote. but once the remote programming was completed, the limits setup was a breeze. Just bought another one for my other retractable awning. ... show more

  • It took a good bit of time to make the proper adjustments to ...
The instructions are not very well written and are hard to understand! It took a good bit of time to make the proper adjustments to get the motor to extend and retract the awning. The removal of the mechanical crank and installation of the electrical motor wasn't too difficult if you are mecanically inclined. I found that it is much easier to use cotton cord to keep the awning from springing open during the process of installing the motor and mounting it into the wall brackets. A large hammer drill will make installing the three(3) wall brackets a lot easier to accomplish! ... show more
