  • Awesome product!
We purchased approximately 20 days ago and look at these plants! Easy installation and simple maintenance. The only thing I would say negatively is the instructions don’t say how often to use the plant food. Other than that great product! Any suggestion on how often we should use the nutrients would be greatly appreciated! ... show more

  • Trying This One For Root Crops
This is a nice hobby kit for those who like to grow a small supply of herbs, leafy greens, or dwarf plants. This hydroponic garden will not work for regular-size tomatoes or root vegetables. However, I have been experimenting with round radishes and round carrots. These grow well but look funny, with the eatable part growing on top of the sponges. Set-up is straightforward, and in 45 minutes or so, you can have all twelve pods planted and the system running. I set mine up this evening, and I am happy with it. I am growing several varieties of radishes, carrots, beets, and turnips. This is a new experimental use for a hydroponic system for me. In similar hydroponic gardens, I have also had successful crops of basil, green peppers, chamomile tea, thyme, oregano, sage, dill, parsley, and chives. I have had more luck with leaf lettuce from these systems than from a much larger outdoor lettuce patch. This is also more convenient. The product description is accurate, and this system works as expected. The product description is accurate. It arrived in two days and in good order. This kit includes no seeds of any type, so these need to be supplied by the user. If you are new to hydroponics, I recommend using leaf lettuce for your initial greens. These can be harvested at almost any size, and even small leaves make tasty snacks. I snack on my leafy greens all winter long from my hydroponic gardens. For herbs, my recommendations are chives, basil, parsley, thyme, and oregano. These can be clipped easily and frequently to keep them to a size the garden can support. All of these also taste good, regardless of the size of the leaves when clipped. The kit has a complete set of sponges and enough growth solution, divided into an A and B variety for several months of operation. The instructions say to add growth solution every two weeks and to keep the water level filled up in the interim with plain water. My tap water is fine, and I am using it for this garden. Adding water is simple, but the refill hole is less convenient than some of my other models. All the electronics work well; the pump comes on and turns off as it should. The pump is quiet and does not cause any noise issues. The lights are on an on-and-off cycle. This cycle could be a problem if you need to set up your garden in an area of the house where the bright light (and I mean bright) will bother you. In my case, I use a closet for a greenhouse, and the lights are a non-issue. To adjust the light timing, use the manual input interface on the front of the planter. Adjusting light timing is more complex than it should be, but it works ok once you figure it out. I tried this one from a manufacturer I was not buying from before. Even though it is listed as a different manufacturer, the components look very much like my other ones, and the kit is very similar. Overall, it is an interesting hobby experiment with some tasty munchies included for your troubles. I would definitely get this system again. ... show more

  • Year round garden for my homeschooler
I do like this garden and it is easy to set up. Instructions are pretty straight forward and easy to understand. I got this for my son actually as we home educate and I’m having him take the reins as part of our homeschool curriculum. There’s lots of learning opportunities in something like this for the littles. I’ll get him set up with what he needs and let him take over. He’s really excited. 😊 I just purchased some greens pods (Aerogarden brand) and we’re excited to see how this does. I like that the deck can be raised up to about 17” so perhaps we’ll be able to try some cherry tomato pods at some point. I’m hoping this deck raises tall enough to work. Time will tell- but in the meantime I wanted him to try some salad greens first. I’ve owned an Aerogarden Bounty before and one thing that had that I wish this did was vacation mode. That mode makes the unit use less water to conserve usage while you’re away. It dims the lights some to do this and slightly shortens the light cycle so not as many nutrients are used up as well. It also has a function to automatically adjust the lighting cycle in case of a power outage. These things I can live without especially since this seems to be priced a bit lower than Aerogardens are. I also like that my Aerogaeden came with some seeded pods to get you started. With this you’ll have to provide your own seeds. That may be better so you know exactly what you’re planting as far as non gmo, heirloom etc if that matters to you. Pre-made seed pods are pretty readily available tho online with a pretty good variety of plants available. I’ll update how our greens do in this, but after setting it up I have high hopes. The unit seems sturdy and made pretty well. Instructions are easy to follow so a newbie should be able to manage. My son got it all set up on his own no problem. He’s 12 for reference. A couple tips is to make sure any holes not used should be covered up. This helps protect the water from light entering inside which can accelerate mold growth which you do not want. Some covers are included with this but if you don’t have enough some plastic juice lids might fit over or cut out round disc of plastic from something like a washed container lid from a plastic butter tub or similar. Even dark colored tape is better than nothing. Check your roots once established and if they become discolored and too slimy brown- carefully trim off any unhealthy looking ones. Be patient. Just like sprouting seeds in any fashion, some seeds just won’t produce. Once plants are established pretty well consider placing a VERY light breeze oscillating fan by them but not too close. Just a light bit of air circulation near them a little each day to help the plants get stronger and perhaps aid in pollination if you have things like tomatoes that flower. I used a small usb powered fan (I think it’s like 5” in diameter) for my Aerogarden I had and those little fans are pretty inexpensive to pick up. I’m no expert at all just learning as I go but these tips be worth trying out yourself. I’ve had good results with my previous indoor garden doing these things. Good luck and have fun with this. Don’t give up if at first you don’t get desired results. Gardening can be both easy yet tricky but never give up too soon and don’t be afraid to start over from scratch. That’s the beauty of indoor gardens like this. No matter the season you can grow food and flowers. 🙂 ... show more
