Product Description posted on Amazon: FITPLAM [brand] Adjustable dumbbell set, 20/35/45/55/70/90lbs Free Weights set with upgraded nut, 4 in 1 Weight Set Used as Kettlebells, Barbell, Push up Stand, Fitness Exercise for Home Gym Suitable Men/Women Pro - At $49.99 (the price at the time this review was written), this is an inexpensive set of "Standard" style - as opposed to "Olympic" style - free weight plates with 2 dumbbell handles, 2 kettlebell handles, a kettlebell spindle, and a connecting bar to create a padded barbell, all with star rings to fasten the weight plates down tight. This starter weight set will make a very much-appreciated gift, but it won't break your budget. Pro - This is a good, basic weightlifting set for beginners, for older kids & "tweens", and for those who are at the tail end of rehab, when it's time to regain normal strength. Also, this set doesn't have so much weight that it's intimidating to the folks in the aforementioned groups. It's a good "starter pack", to put it in laymen terms. Pro - The dumbbell handles appear to be solid plastic that's almost, but not quite, completely rigid. This too is good because they're strong, and yet they also have a small touch of flexibility in them so they're less likely to crack when under stress. Pro - A pair of kettlebell handles is included in this beginner's set. Not all intro sets have them, and these particular handles have an excellent non-slip grip that feels great in your hand. Big Pro - Because the barbell ends in this set have the common 1" Standard diameter - the size that's used that's used ubiquitously in home gyms & workout areas in lieu of more expensive Olympic style bars - plates from other Standard free weight sets are fully interchangeable with this set's weight plates, so additional weight can be added to this set very easily when needed. Pro - Because the weights are light, if they're dropped their plastic coating is less likely to split (as is so common to plastic-coated weight plates made with iron-infused sand, like these plates are. Pro - The padding on the middle connecting rod that converts two dumbbell handles into a barbell is very soft and thick, so it makes a comfortable barbell cushion after the dumbbell bars are screwed into it. Con - The "upgraded" double-locking nuts increase the difficulty and time required to secure weight plate(s) on the barbell ends. They are more inconvenient than useful. This feature may be a good idea in theory, but it was poorly engineered in the design phase of this product. Con - The connecting bar is hollow in the center between its threaded ends, so it's not as strong as it could be. This won't be an issue until weight plates with 1" centers from other sets are added into the mix, as mentioned in the Big Pro above. If a new lifter gets strong enough to overload the plastic 3-piece barbell, an upgrade to a steel barbell will be needed for safety. And possibly not long after that, steel dumbbell handles will need to be added also. At that time this set can be happily re-gifted to a younger Padawan Learner or another person just finishing up Rehab. If treated kindly, this could be "a gift that just keeps on giving" (like a fruitcake?), but this gift can leave lasting improvements in the health of people who learn to use it correctly, and do so frequently and persistently. Con - There's not enough weight in this set alone to satisfy a moderately strong weightlifter, and a persistent, enthusiastic beginner will soon need to add more weight plates. But, again, these aren't expensive nor are they at all hard to find, so this is no big deal really. All in all, this FITPLAM brand weightlifting package is a good starter set for those new to weightlifting or in the final stages of rehab. If you've got a young one who's old enough to start lifting, or a grandson/granddaughter, nephew or niece that wants to get in shape or increase their strength & competitiveness in athletic sports, this intro set isn't a bad way to get them started. I felt a little iffy about the plastic at first, but it has held up decently well. The foam used for the grips are good and allows me to get a good grip. Assembly was very easy and straight forward. The ability to adjust the weight is great as well.

    • Not the best when you want to switch weights - so much unscrewing and re-screwing uuuhhhh

This is an okay set, not too heavy but the locking nut requires that you screw it on and the thread is super long so it takes a while to undo and redo if you want to switch weights. Would have been better to slide it on then twist to lock or something. Because of that I am not sure I will get much use as it is easier to keep it one weight. You can combine the dumbbells into one barbell but or use as kettle bell but all that unscrewing and re-screwing of everything gets old quickly so switching from one configuration to another is not good for a quick easy workout. ... show more

This is a great and extremely versatile set. You can configure it as a barbell, dumbbells, or a kettle bell. The weight range is great and the workout possibilities are endless. For a small set of weights that don't take up much room, this set is perfect.

I don't have weights in my garage, but I do have a big mess of stuff for my car, motorcycle, tools, lawn care, etc. I don't have a lot of room for weights so I wanted to get something small that I could leave in the house somewhere. I have one of the lower weight versions of this, so I am not gaining huge amounts of muscle. But I am staying fit and toned by using this. My kids are into rock climbing and they love these weights too. I am constantly having to take these out of their bedrooms because they use them and leave them in their room. ... show more

I am a middle aged woman who prefers to work out at home but was somewhat limited because I only had hand weights. This set has opened up a lot of options for me, making my home gym much more flexible. I love how this set allows you to configure the weights as a dumbbell, barbell or kettlebell. They are easy to switch to different weight types and are decent quality. I do question how they are eco friendly.
