  • Beautiful display but not easily viewable
Color: Black
While it has a very nice colorful display it would be nice if you could control the darkness of the numbers without affecting the whole brightness of the display. The item has a glass like cover and in my natural lit room this will create a glare on it making it hard to read. Unless I'm standing above the item I can barely read it from a distance as I can my other smaller weather device. I am returning it because most the time when I'm reading my weather device I'm sitting across the room from it. I don't want to have to be standing right in front of it every time I want to know what the outside/inside temperature is. Also so far it's been on for about an hour and it stating the outside humidity is 16% which is not correct. Based on AccuWeather the outside humidity is reported at 51%. Also it's having a hard time maintaining outdoor sensor connection even though my other device had no problem with it. It's going from two bars to four bars and then back to two bars where as my other device always maintained a consistent four bars. ... show more

  • Could not calibrate the Humidity
Color: Black
I let this set overnight to ensure it had time to equalize. The indoor and outdoor units were side-by-side. I have another instrument for temperature and humidity I put with them and another digital thermometer just for accuracy. The temperatures and humidity were wrong. I followed the calibration program instructions to reset them. I was able to set the temperatures but the humidity settings would not go low enough. They also could not be set the same. One would only go down to 45% and the other went to 28%. This is after sitting in the same location for over 12 hours. I also noticed up to 5 degrees variation in the temperature readings after they were set. This is simply not acceptable. I was offered a 25% discount to keep it. Obviously, it cannot function properly if the humidity is wrong. Also, it is in learning mode for up to 14 days. The barometric pressure cannot be set so it has to "learn" what it should be. I have used this brand before and not had problems. This one was apparently defective. I did use the Amazon technical support but they could not tell me anything I did not already know. The company did not show a phone number or chat option. I elected to return it. ... show more

  • Save your money for something else!
Color: Black
1990 is calling this item and it wants it back. This is not a display screen monitor which I am perfectly ok with given the price. However, you cannot legibly read the display properly due to 2 reasons: The writing is small AND the contrast is very poor. The background light flushes out the writing making it very hard. Also, the quality seems to have suffered compared to my old Acurite (the non color version). Returning it in the box. not worth $40 bucks. More like $15 and only if you want to strain your eyes when trying to read. ... show more

  • But baby it's cold outside...
Color: Black
Installing this was easy. Just turn on the remote sensor, plug the base station in (or insert batteries) and you're good to go. I have the remote sensor hanging in a covered patio and the base is a few rooms away inside the house and I'm getting a strong signal. I checked the temperature with a digital and an analog thermometer and the AcuRite was within two degrees but always high. I didn't have a way to check the humidity so I relied on the weather service for a recording station about 10 miles from me and the AcuRite was pretty close. I live in a low humidity area and I did notice that when the humidity gets below about 10% the result doesn't seem to be off more but it's close enough. The display is pretty bright but you can dim it if it's plugged into AC. It will automatically dim if running off the batteries. ... show more

  • This is an awesome machine
Color: Black
The biggest defect of this product is that it has a narrow field of view compared to, say, a modern laptop screen or a modern television screen. However, once we find a creative solution to the problem of the limited angle of view, we are left with an awesome machine that only an experienced, career weather man might feel unhappy with. Here are 7 things you might not know unless you read the instructions: (1)Press down for at least 2 seconds on the up-arrow button or the down-arrow button to reset the daily high and the daily low. (2)The daily high and daily low are reset automatically every midnight. (3)Never remove the 4 screws on the outdoor sensor because we would be opening the wrong side of it - the side that never needs to be opened. (4)Choose between frequency A, frequency B, and frequency C so that the outdoor sensor can communicate with the main instrument panel. (5)The 2 AA batteries in the outdoor sensor are very necessary but the 3 AA batteries in the main instrument panel are NOT necessary. (6)The main instrument panel requires a button battery, which is provided, and should always be mounted with the "+" sign facing up toward the user's face. (7)The best time to go deep sea fishing is during highest tide and during lowest tide, during the full moon and during the new moon. (8)The barometer/weather forecaster won't work during the first 14 days after initial setup, during which time the barometer/weather forecaster is determining the altitude (elevation above sea level) of the user - but it will never report to us exactly what it found out about our altitude. (9)During setup, choose between Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, Alaska, or Hawaii and choose between DST capable and never DST. UPDATE: Many people have written that their AcuRite Color Weather Station barometer might be defective. Here's how we can know our altitude above sea level from the "inHg" number that we see on our digital barometer: Your Average "inHg" Number.......Your Altitude Above/Below Sea Level: 35.738.............................................-5,000 feet 31.018.............................................-1,000 feet 30.247............................................... -300 feet 30.138................................................-200 feet 30.030................................................-100 feet 29.921.....................................................0 feet 29.813...............................................+100 feet 29.706...............................................+200 feet 29.598...............................................+300 feet 29.491...............................................+400 feet 29.385...............................................+500 feet 29.278...............................................+600 feet 29.172...............................................+700 feet 29.066...............................................+800 feet 28.961...............................................+900 feet 28.856............................................+1,000 feet 27.821............................................+2,000 feet 26.817............................................+3,000 feet 25.842............................................+4,000 feet 24.896............................................+5,000 feet 23.978............................................+6,000 feet 23.088............................................+7,000 feet 20.577..........................................+10,000 feet 16.886..........................................+15,000 feet 13.750..........................................+20,000 feet 11.104..........................................+25,000 feet 8.8855..........................................+30,000 feet 7.0406..........................................+35,000 feet 5.5381..........................................+40,000 feet 0.3219........................................+100,000 feet ... show more

  • Looked so nice but
Color: Black
I got this for my husband for Father's Day. He had been wanting one for awhile. It seemed fine at first but I was standing on my porch watching a super crazy rain and lightning storm go on and the weather station was just reporting clouds and sun. Later I came and looked at it and noticed that the inside and outside temperatures were different. I had brought it outside whenthe rain was happening. It should have matched. Very disappointed. ... show more
