The F-250 had a Soundstream VR-651B installed in it 6 years ago. That radio worked well and was fine. Then, one day, it just stopped producing sound. Checked all the wiring and fuses and everything was fine- it just wouldn't produce audio. We believe something messed up internally as this would mute the music when the backup camera was engaged. Think it did this, and never undid it. Looked for alternative replacements, and really did not want to spend $$$$$ again, so was ignoring Crutchfield. Ran across this one here, and thoroughly looked it over. For $67.05 and the decent reviews, it was too tempting. Ordered it. We are incredibly HAPPY with this unit. IT sounds WAY better than the unit it replaced. Everything functions well. Already had the wiring harness with the other radio, so just had to solder this one in. Took all of 10 minutes. The existing backup camera connected fine and works well. Moved over the USB thumb drive with all the music, and that worked perfect. The only complaint we have, is the included remote. It is great to have this, but when it was mounted on the steering wheel, it would not work. Not sure if this is just because of the size of the truck or what, so we needed to find another spot for it. As seen in the included photo, it works great there. It just seems that it really needs to be pointed at the radio to function properly. Ok. For less than $70, we are extremely pleased. Hopefully this will last for a long time. We would so buy this again in a second. It is incredible quality for the money. It was less than half the price of the Soundstream it replaced and is a clearly superior unit.     • A little bit of everything...

This radio has a little bit of everything, yet so much to be desired. It's like buying the intro version of a something where for the lower cost, you only get a sample of the best features until you're ready to pay much more for the full version. For starters, the phone mirroring option picked up my iPhone 6s without the need of the App I have read so much about in the reviews. I was able to access navigation, internet, even Youtube, but when I opened Netflix, CNN, U-verse or any other streaming app, it crashes. No matter if I am in park or not. It's like somewhere there is a link that says "For this feature, please upgrade to the full version of this radio." Let's move on to the media player. I struggled to insert a 32gb micro-SD card into the slot. I am a musician with big hands and no fingernails, so I had to use a pen to click it into place. The sound was much better than expected. The EQ was limited but very responsive. I was able to dial in a pretty decent sound for the over 350 songs I had on the SD card. I could go from song to song, but I could not go to a list that would allow me to find a specific song to play. Then, when I hit the random selection, it would play select the same 5 or so songs two to three times before playing a different one. This was also true for videos. The screen on this thing is nice. I can even see it when the sun is shining which I thought was impressive compared to some of the more expensive radios I have owned. If I was a critic of backup cameras, I'd say that this one is decent. I think as long as you can see enough not to hit something or someone, its good. But there were little to no instructions on how to install it. I had to go to youtube. The steering wheel control for me works well so far, but boy it would have been nice if it was illuminated for those of us who drive at night. Again, maybe I just need to upgrade to the full version. You can adjust the color of the LED's on the side of the radio, but not the screen menus and you can only pick from a limited number of colors. A feature of the full version? I did notice that with the current firmware, you can select your car brand to appear when you start your car instead of the welcome screen. I guess you get the point. It's like you see the many features but when you go to use them, you remember that you paid under $100. I would have preferred that they find a few features that they could execute well as opposed to offering all these features, but yet not allow them to meet the basic functionality for the user. As I stated in the headline this unit worked well for me to bring my car alive. The built-in amplifier absolutely brought sound alive the stock deck wasn't doing for my car. The screen is a good size and impressive. I added a 3rd party camera so I could see behind me this screen is exceptionally bright. I was able to change the launcher on the deck and oh my goodness! It completely changed the experience for the better as I am someone who tweaks all the settings to maximize enjoyment in stuff like this. I thought the price was good and the installation was straightforward and it paired easily with my phone. I couldn't ask for more from this deck. I think it is well worth the price. ... show more
