For the price, I was not expecting much, but my initial impression was positive. The cable came spooled in an a bit tangled and required a good bit of unspooling to get it to pull freely. The cable also has a lot of memory from the larger spool it had to have come from. If there slack in the cable, it unwinds itself, similar to an open faced fishing reel using monofilament fishing line. Secret is to just keep tension on it. Also, be carful when grabbing the hook to pull. The ends of the cable, where it loops at the cable to hook connection are not completely covered. The exposed ends are very sharp and will draw blood... They should have just used a slightly bigger crimp and covered the cable ends completely. ... show more

I'm using this in the loft of our shop to move things up the stairs. I just put a few half-sheets of plywood on the stairs and then pull awkward/heavier items up on a wooden sled that I can strap things to. It's working great. The winch easily handles anything that I want to store in the loft, and is a lot safer than trying to wrestle things up the stairs by myself. It should work just as easily to lower things back down. The winch seems well made. The pawl switches back and forth easily. Assembly was easy, just attaching the handle. The cable was plenty long for me to attach it across the loft with lags so that items are pulled up off the stairs onto the floor and are easy to work with. The black coating is holding up well, and the rest is galvanized so it shouldn't rust. It's doing what I need and I'm happy with it. ... show more

This Dawot Boat Trailer Winch 800lbs Hand Winch Heavy Duty Hook with 33ft Steel Cable works good in helping to position medium sized rock crushers and impactors prior to bolting them into permanent mounts. I welded a 1-4-inch-thick x 2-inch eyelet to the back side of the base to hook a small anchoring chain to and then pull out the cable and hook used to connect to pieces of machinery for the final movements of them to line up bolt holes, etc. The little and lightweight winch is well- made and has plenty of pull strength with a good gear ratio of pull per crank. Usually, I only need a few inches or less of movement and this winch works great for this purpose. Good little winch at a good price- great find! ... show more

There is a generous amount of decent guage wire rope. The handle operates easily and smoothly. The possibilities for use of this helpful winch is numerous.     • Handle bushing too small; handle doesn't sit flush.

The varied torque settings work well, the cable length is fine and the winch works, but only after modifying the bushing with pliers, in order to allow the handle to sit flush against the handle bushing. Not doing so would have meant I'd be compromising on load capacity, which I didn't want to do. Having to modify a product is a no-go for me. This, in particular, is a glaring oversight, and so I question the long-term reliability of the entire unit, as well. Pass. ... show more

Structurally sound design, nice handle, but unfortunately the bracket for the handle is slightly too small which doesn’t allow it to be put together properly. The issue is that it causes a little wiggle in the handle, however, it is still very manageable. The handle was not attached but was easy to install except for the already mentioned problem. The wire didn’t line up well so it is difficult to manage (sort of tangled). It does what it is suppose to do but you have to work at it. I think there are better choices out there. ... show more
