This is a great mat. I loved it for prepping my baking items, but I forgot I sat my fresh made bread down on it after it cooled and started cutting. This is not a cutting mat/board, knives will cut through this. So I am ordering another one!

    • Easy to use, lays flat, stays put.

For years we have had a vinyl pastry mat that was rolled up and placed out of the way on top of the panty shelves. And that is pretty much where it stays, never being used because it has always been a pain in the derriere to use. Never laying flat and always sliding around on the counter when trying to use it, mostly because it wouldn’t lay flat. So along comes these new silicone pastry mats and I’ve been contemplating whether or not to get one since I rarely ever used the old one. And now that I’ve upgraded, I’m glad I did get this one. I can roll it, fold it, or wad it up in a ball (not recommended though), toss it in a draw or on top of my pantry (where the old one used to live), and no matter what, when I lay this one out on the counter, it lays flat and once you get all the air bubbles out from under it, it sticks to the counter top like glue. It doesn’t move one bit until you are finished with it and peel it back up to clean. The measuring scales are easy to read and for added convenience, they also included a temperature and a measurements conversion chart right on the mat, so no more flipping through cookbooks looking for conversion formulas and digging out the calculator to convert a recipe or baking temperatures. So now that I have a pastry mat that I can use, and expect to be putting to use more often, making flour tortillas, biscuits, pies and dumplings will be much more precise and pleasurable. On the other-hand, I will admit there is a slight downside. I opted for the bigger mat, because, you know, “bigger is better” right? Wrong! Right out of the package I quickly found out that washing this huge mat is about as much fun as trying to bathe an alley cat. I think it would be easier to wash in the bathroom shower than it is in the kitchen sink. So take that into consideration before ordering one for yourself, as the smaller one may be all you need and will be much easier to clean w/o getting yourself, the counter and the floors soaked from splash water. Not the mat’s fault so no point in deducting stars for that. This silicone pastry mat gets my vote for a win/win, and I will be recommending it to family and friends that may also still be using those old stiff vinyl mats. ... show more

First, here's what I liked... my previous pastry mat was a stiff, rolled sheet that never quite laid flat and was a pain to store. This pastry mat is a huge improvement on both of those items, as the soft silicon allows you to easily lay the mat completely flat (and it adheres firmly to the undersurface, so it doesn't slide around) and fold it however you want to for storage. I'm also a fan of the raised lip around the exterior edge, which keeps flour on the mat - making cleanup easier. (A very minor issue is that floppier nature of the soft silicone does make it a little harder to clean. But you gain way more than you lose with the soft silicone.) The mat has both horizontal and vertical measurements for both inches and centimeters, and circular measurements in the center. Here is the big negative about this mat... whoever designed it made it a critical error in the printing layout. When you need to roll something into a rectangle, you need to measure both the width and the length. However, this mat has placed the 0 marks for length INCHES and width CENTIMETERS into the SAME corner -- you should have the 0 marks marks for length INCHES and width INCHES in the same corner, so that you can measurement both directions at once. After measuring length inches, I have to literally slide my dough to the other end of the mat if I want to measure the width inches. The same problem exists if you need to measure in centimeters - the 0 marks are in different corners. Super annoying. If the graphic designer had just placed these measurements in the correct orientations, this pastry mat would've been an easy 5 stars. ... show more
