Frankly, I'm a little shocked that this nice item was being offered for a test spin on Amazon. It's 10000 BTU and my local home improvement store doesn't even have this capacity. I just moved recently and I truly didn't think an 80 mile distance would make such a big difference in temperature nor was I prepared. It is approximately ten degrees hotter at my new place on many summer days. This week alone, temps have hit the hundreds. And, the air conditioning system in this house is old, faulty and mostly ineffective. So yes, I didn't hesitate to try it. Normally, I would hem and haw at a purchase decision such as this and take my time, often not making a purchase decision for several weeks. I'm so thrilled to have the honor of testing this without having to do any leg work. In return, I will help you with your legwork! I saw the advantages of this type of unit right away. No installation, no lifting. The first thing I noticed was how solid this unit is (I felt a twinge of guilt for the UPS driver that had to haul it over) and then I see that there is an important notice on the box telling you to allow it to sit in the upright position for a full twelve hours before using for the first time. So I used that time to find a place to locate it, unbox it and review the instructions which tell you to use a grounded wall outlet and place it two feet from the wall taking care not to place in certain places like in the bathroom or next to the oven. Next comes the actual yet simple installation and you start by installing the exhaust heat pipe assembly. This will be the 3 large plastic parts that were included. Basically this means that you just screw on the 2 plastic pieces on each end of the large accordion tube. You have to keep turning it slowly and it'll gradually screw on. Next you open up your window and install that last long plastic piece. There is an extra piece you may or may not need depending on the size of your window. It will go horizontal or vertical depending on your windows set up. This is the trickiest part but easy. This is when you grab that little bag of hardware. See my picture. Next, clip on the accordion hose you assembled, one end to the window and the other to the back of the unit. Easy! Now I waited the remainder of the twelve hours to continue. That accordion hose is huge. It’s kind of an obstruction plus an eyesore with the diameter of a cantaloupe. But I’m not going to pass judgement on that detail until I find out if this unit will make my life pleasant on the next triple digit temperature day which is actually tomorrow . When it is that hot, my energy and concentration is completely zapped and all I can think about is how miserable I feel. Today it is 92 degrees for me. That is tolerable but tomorrow the temperature is predicted to be a record breaking 110. This unit could not have arrived at a better time. When the required twelve hours have passed, the first step before using is a little test to make sure the unit is functioning properly. This should be performed before each use. To do so, first plug in the unit and then press reset. Then you press the test button which should trip the circuit. Press the reset button and you will hear a click and the AC is ready for use. If the power supply cord fails to trip you'll need to replace it. The reset and test button are located on the actual plug. See my picture. Now the moment has arrived for turning it on. It worked immediately! Power it on with the power button using the unit or the remote. It starts making things cooler immediately and cools the specified amount of square feet as promised. The room feels like when I am standing infront of my tall freezer with the door wide open. I located mine in the kitchen for two reasons. One, my kitchen is located at the center of the house and two, it has a small window. The cord is grounded so you will need an outlet for three prong. I will be using a fan to push the cool air further into the living room on really hot days. I’m a little bit confused about its energy rating. The listing claims it is 6.5 CEER boasting that it won’t make a mark on the electric bill yet I read contradicting information elsewhere that the higher the CEER, the better and 8.5 should be the minimum CEER one should seek. I also read that in order for a window air conditioner to qualify for the coveted energy star rating, it needs to have a CEER of 12 or higher. I did some comparisons and comparable choices had similar CEERs. I don't know if that stuff is important, I just want to be cool without an electric bill that is higher than an average car payment if that is at all possible. Energy costs and consumptions are a whole different story and I am not equipped or qualified to comment nor do I want to get ahead of myself. I’m going to use this unit wisely and try to aim for only the most unbearable days and all I can do is watch my electric bill for changes. Last summer the bill was a shocking and overwhelming and I am almost positive that using this newer, more efficient unit instead of the faulty and old units in the house will keep things more comfortable and under control. I’m definitely going to report back here after I receive my next electric bill. I am enjoying it so far, it is still early to worry about any maintenance but I will try to update as I learn more. So far, this unit is keeping me very comfortable. It’s not that loud at all if you were wondering and it’s going to keep me productive and happy. I am more than 100% happy with this unit. The media could not be loaded. Set up was easy. The windspeed it good and the air is very cold. You can adjust it on the top panel or with the remote. You will need two AAA batteries for the remote. The window kit is two sliding pieces of plastic One slides within the other so you can adjust the length of it. Unfortunately, if I slide it together enough to fit my window, the inside piece blocks part of the hole where the vent goes. I’m going to have to cut the inner piece shorter so that I can put it in my window and not block the air flow. ... show more

This unit is efficient and effective. It is fairly easy to install and produces very cold air. It keeps up with high heat in a small to mid sized room without problem. While the house does have central air, we sometimes only want/need one smaller area to be cooled. While this is not what I would consider easily portable, it is easy to install in the area you want it, and then leave it there to use as needed. It is quiet and comes with some nice features like a remote, a timer, and also… the unit itself is like a box fan noise level. It also has a dehumidifier, which is a un-necessary feature in very dry climates, but if you are in a more humid area, you may find that a nice benefit. The remote, while a nice addition, is also an extra. You can use the unit without it, which is nice if you have children or are somewhat absent-minded! This is a great unit for anyone who does not have a whole house air conditioning system. Summers are hot and long, and this will bring needed relief, especially if one lives in a townhouse and the bedrooms are upstairs. heat rises, and it can get pretty stuffy upstairs. Fans are great, but nothing beats the cool air from an conditioning unit. This will cool the air in a 2 bedroom upstairs unit if placed between the two bedrooms.
