I needed something to keep the portable generator battery that runs my home during power outage fully charged. I leave the power on and plugged in because it has remote start. This way during the cold winter and snowy nights I can start this from inside and trust the battery is fully charged. I have the control unit under a roof so it stays dry. The solar is on that roof and I will end up having it off the roof soon so the snow does not over power it. This works really well and after year it is holding up and doing exactly what it is suppose to do. The solar panel appears to be identical to others I've purchased, down to the termination in industry standard MC4 connectors. The controller appears to be identical but for slightly different labeling, to 4 other inexpensive PWM controllers I've purchased from other companies. Setting this kit apart is the generous, very flexible cabling, complete with tinned leads that insert into the controller ports plus the well-made battery clamps to connect to your storage battery. The controller instructions were a bit more obscure than others I've purchased, particularly in the area of determining which battery type you have. In general, the documentation could have been a lot better, especially for a first-time installer. I can't speak to performance compared to my other 12V panels from different sources because the inexpensive PWM controllers don't show charging current or watts, but the panel seems to be hitting the target charging voltage in direct sunlight and the battery (deep cycle conventional marine - AKA "flooded" type) has come up to the correct voltage. If I don't update this in a few weeks, I'm entirely pleased with it. ... show more

    • So-so performance
I have had 4 of the 160 watt panels for some time now. They work, they charge a battery but their performance is lackluster. The panels are inconsistent with each other ranging from 15.6 Vmp on one to 18 Vmp on the best performing panel. In series, the best output I have seen from these four panels has been around 430 watts out of 640 watt rating, or about 67% of their rated output. Compare that to another brand's 240 watt panels that each consistently output up to 200+ watts, or about 83% under the same conditions. I have placed these as a non-critical array to power a shed where they serve their purpose. ... show more
