The 1.5-inch Bunkie Board , Split Bunkie Board provides a surface foundation for any platform beds, bunks and daybeds. It adds support to the mattress and will keep mattress stay in good shape thus extending the life of your mattress. It will give a firm bottom support for the mattress and raises the mattress up for about 1.5 inches. When a mattress is placed directly on slats or metal spring, the mattress will have the tendency to rip or sink. These can be avoided with the use of a Bunkie board. Using a Bunkie board doubles the mattress' life expectancy. This Bunkie board is a good alternative in lieu of a box spring that may be too high for day beds. It will give the bed a lift without adding much height. This Bunkie board is strong enough to be used directly on bed frame in lieu of a box spring. It will give the mattress a lift which is a quite low but will definitely hold up the mattress. It is wrapped in a stitch bonded nonwoven fabric. It meets federal standards 1632 and 1633 fire code.     • Made a Metal bed Frame Comfy
The full bed for my son’s room has a metal bed frame that can get uncomfortable after laying on the full foam mattress for a while. He doesn’t notice it, but when lay in his bed to read at night it can get really uncomfortable as I start to feel the metal bars under the foam. So, I wanted to get something that would support the mattress & make it so that I could not feel the metal bars. I did not want a box spring because those are just too thick and heavy and would make the bed way too tall. So I did a Google search and found out about bunkie boards. I looked at some other boards before this… but most of them looked like they were either plywood strapped together with nylon or they were the kinds of boarding you’d need for a traditional framed bed that didn’t already have bars. This bunkie board looked a bit more sturdy and solid from the pictures& I like that it is covered with cloth. The shipping was quick for this item which I appreciate, especially considering the cost. The price point is actually a bit higher than I expected to pay, but the product does seem to be quality and sturdy so far. The full size is two twin size boards& you just sit them side by side on the base of the bed. I will say that it would be nice if this came with some sort of apparatus to link the boards together. While they stay together well so far under the weight of the mattress, I could see how someone trying to put the mattress on top of a bed frame like mine (no raised edges) could easily have a very frustrating experience, especially if they were working by themselves. I did this by myself but the bed I was installing them on is in a corner and has a tent over the top, these things together acted as a kind of stabilizer for the boards so they didn’t slide off the frame while I was putting the mattress back on. Otherwise I could not have installed these by myself. Another thing that may be needed by someone with a frame like mine is some kind of nonslip material. Maybe one of those mats that goes under carpet or something… to prevent the boards from slipping on top of the frame. Especially if the bed is not in a corner like mine. The current set up will suffice for now, but I will be getting some additional materials to keep the boards in place atop the frame. Overall, this is a great product. I do hope that my feedback serves to give the makers some ideas for future iterations. ... show more

This is a wonderful substitute for a boxspring. I didn't have one for the full size mattress that I have been using as my "guestroom bed" for the past year. I sure wasn't going to go out and buy a whole new full sized mattress just to get a boxspring, and they don't sell them separately. These answered some very specific needs for a house where a one-piece queen size box spring wouldn't fit up the stairs, an existing bed headboard that wouldn't accommodate a thicker box spring plus one of the new, thicker mattresses, and a mother who did not want a tall bed setup she couldn't get in and out of easily. This comes in two light-weight pieces, which made it very easy to handle and get up the stairs. The thickness is only an inch or two, which makes it possible to get a taller mattress (9-11 inches) without increasing the overall height of the bed from what used to be typical. Quality seemed very good, but this is NOT meant to be a replacement for a box spring on an unsupported bed frame. With a standard metal bed frame you'll need at least three solid cross pieces underneath this, but more is better. You're really getting more of a mattress platform here than a bed support system. You must have a good, solid bed frame beneath it that is capable of supporting the entire mattress by itself. In our case, after the unwelcome surprise that the bed frame had no cross supports, disassembled the existing box spring and used only the wooden slat portion (removing all the springs and wire mesh and fabric) so we had effectively created a thin wooden slat platform (ones you can buy are also available on Amazon, some of which come rolled up for easy transport). On top of this we put this bed platform, screwed it down so there wouldd be no shifting and had a nice-looking, smooth, yet strong and solid THIN mattress support. Then we added the quite heavy new GhostBed memory foam mattress ( GhostBed Queen Latex & Gel Memory Foam Luxury Mattress, 11-Inch (11GBED50) ) and achieved an entire bed that was no higher off the floor than the original box spring and old 5 inch mattress, all with elements that came in compact sizes so they went up the stairs and around the corners easily. ... show more
