  • Probably not terribly efficient for constant use, but fast.
Size: 11.6"D x 11.4"W x 8.66"H Color: White Number of Items: 1
The chassis is cool to the touch in exactly the same way a refrigerator isn't, so while the insulation may be good for a device of this sort, it is not good in the absolute. I suspect it is mainly the ice melting that keeps the chamber cool, which would be why the ice tray is directly over the water reservoir. That said, the product is compressor driven as opposed to any kind of Peltier device, which means in English that things could have been far worse. The device is not at all loud and I don't notice it except when it startles me when ice is dumped because I'm not used to hearing that sound yet. I don't know if it's 6 minutes or not, but compared to slapping your water in the refrigerator, this thing is fast. Plug it in, fill it, dawdle in the kitchen and be surprised you already have ice in there. The ice tray itself is quite small and won't hold a lot, but given the speed it's probably not going to be an issue for one or two people. The ice tray itself will not hold as much as is pictured before the machine indicates it is full, so you probably won't have a whole lot of ice at one time unless you babysit it and knock the obstructing ice into the tray or transfer the ice to another container. If you're concerned about efficiency or want more volume for immediate use, then you can try to dump the internal ice tray into a container of your choosing and stick it in the freezer like normal and turn it off when you have as much as you need, but the ice is wet because the melting ice is the primary way the interior stays cold, so it may stick together if you try that. Especially at the bottom of the tray where excess water can collect into a sheet. I wouldn't say this was amazing, but it's good. I like lots of ice when I make hot tea so I can have cold tea instead, and this thing provides without my having to fiddle around with ice trays. I probably should take my own advice and put the made ice into the freezer and turn this off when I'm not using it, but why act when you can procrastinate. ... show more

  • 6 minute Ice maker! No kidding! (but inverter users beware, read below for caveat)
When I saw the listing and it said "Makes ice in 6 minutes." I said to myself, no way in the world can it make ice in 6 minutes. So I had to get this thing just so I could write this review and call this out for false advertising. Well, today is a sad day because I cannot do that. When I received this Ice maker, I immediately took it out of the box and placed it on the counter. Took all the tape off and took the little ice scope out of the ice tray. Poured in warm tap water, plugged it in and turned it on. 6 minutes later it dropped 9 small ice cylinders, then went to make more. 6 minutes more and it dropped another 9 cylinders. I let this sit over night and it filled the basket with ice. Now this has no refrigeration other than the refrigerant to make the ice. What this means is there is no way to keep the ice cold and to keep it from melting. However this design is genius, the ice bucket sits over the water reservoir and has holes in it. What this does is when the ice melts, it drips back into the water tank and continues to make more ice. This cycle will repeat until the water evaporates. So as long as you replenish the water, it will continue to make ice, even if some of it melts. There is a littler laser eye that when the ice blocks that eye, it determines the bucket is full and won't make more ice until you remove some ice or the ice melts enough that it no longer blocks the eye and it will then make more. There is one caveat though. This listing says it is great for camping. This unit runs on AC power and has a simple 2 prong plug. The directions says this uses 115V, 60 Hz, 1.5A and 110 watts. That being said, my 500 watt nominal, 1000 watt peak inverter should have been over kill. When I took it out to my shed where a have a solar setup with said inverter and plugged it in, the unit turned on. The pump turned on, filled the tray with water and then the AC compressor tried to kick on. All the lights flashed and the unit turned off and dumped the water out of the tray. I turned it back on and tried two more times, but each time the compressor tried to kick on, it died. My only conclusion is that you might need a pure sine wave inverter. I do not own one so I was not able to test this theory out. So if you plan on using this unit with an inverter, be aware that it may not work. To make sure it was the inverter, I took it back inside the house, plugged it in to the wall and it worked perfectly. So please keep that in mind ... show more
