Description

Zip Box Pro 4x5.65 (Swing Away) is a lightweight and compact mattebox that holds three 4x5.65 filters, attaches to 15mm lightweight rods, swings away for easy lens changes, and has a folding top flag which covers the front of the mattebox for protection during packing. This system can also be adapted to studio rods by adding a LW 15mm Adapter V2 (19mm) or LW 15mm Adapter V2 (15mm Studio). Swing away bracket includes ability to tilt by loosening two screws on the side. The same two screws also allow for vertical adjustability of 4mm up and 4mm down from the lens center. One or two filters can also be tilted by offsetting them in the filter tray and leaning them back into the housing. Filters are loaded from the front of the mattebox and are securely held by a spring loaded latch. Top flag is made of lightweight carbon fiber and covers the front of the mattebox which is great for protecting the lens between takes. The flag can be removed by loosening the top thumbscrew, aligning the tab with the key slot, and pulling out. Rear opening of the swing away back is 114mm and snap-in reduction rings are included for common lens barrel diameters of 110mm, 104mm, 95mm, 87mm, and 80mm. A universal cloth donut is also included for non-standard lens diameters or lenses that have a moving front while focusing. The cloth donut should also be used when tilting the Zip Box Pro using the swing away bracket. If clamp on version is desired, swing away back can be removed by 4 screws and replaced with clamp on backs with sizes 114mm, 110mm, 104mm, 100mm, 95mm, 87mm, and 80mm. • Nice, light-weight solution that does what it is supposed to do.
Simple, well-made, light-weight matte box and flag that does its job. If there's one wish I had, it would be for a rotatable filter slot for polarizers and gradients, but that would completely change and complicate the design.

  • Light but overpriced...
The product was well built. It was a great light mattebox. However, the functionality of tilting the mattebox to eliminate the ghosting issues with filters was not working as advertised. If you are looking for a tilting mattebox this isn’t the best choice. Overall, for the price, this product isn’t the best choice. ... show more

  • A little Pricey but has some great features
So this is a great matte box but at $500 I kind of feel like you're paying just for the name, there's a few other matte boxes on the market in the $100 range that really give this one a run for it's money, particularly ones from Small Rig and Tilta the only this thing this one has going for it is it can fit 3 filters as opposed to 2 and it can swing away for easy lens changes keep in mind though that they make a version of this that $100 cheaper that cannot swing away which only really leaves that one with advantage, you really have to ask yourself if that extra filter slot is worth the extra $300 and if that rail attachment that lets the matte box swing open is worth the extra $100 on top of that. I feel like for most people it's probably not going to. The packaging on this matte box was also pretty bad compared to other, my $100 small rig matte box came in a much nice box and was packaged waaaay better than this one, when I received this and opened it I was pretty underwhelmed it was just a box with a few bags containing the matte box and filter rings and some black packing paper and that was pretty much it, I'm not gonna like I was expecting a lot more from a product that cost this much, the packaging on this very much felt like an afterthought. Overall it's a really nice matte box but I think you're paying more for the name of the company and I'm not entirely sure it's worth it to spend the extra money to buy this over something from Small Rig or Tilta ... show more

  • Warning: Not All Filters are compatible (Stay away if you have thick 4x5.65 Filters)
Not all 4x5.65 filters fit properly on this Mattebox, my personal NiSi IRND filters are quite difficult to install and remove from the filter tray on the mattebox because of the thickness of the filters, and presents an issue when it comes to the safety of the filters themselves. It should be noted that this could've been such a great product had the filter tray system been better designed, but we're left with this unfortunately. ... show more

  • In my opinion the highest quality lightweight matte box on the market
The first thing you should know that you shouldn't be comparing this matte box to the new budget options that have come on the market in the last year or so from SmallRig and Tilta. Those cheaper matte boxes are good for the price but that don't have the same build quality as the Wooden Zip Box Pro. This one is more on the level with the options from folks like Bright Tangerine. This is a true professional grade piece of gear. Something you would see on run and gun rigs on commercial sets. Lets me honest here, this thing looks fantastic on your rig. Yes, having an elaborate rig can definitely impress a client and having Wooden Camera printed on the flag doesn't hurt either! The appearance is impressive to say the least. The build quality here is top notch as you might expect from Wooden. The flag is carbon fiber and not so thin that there is a lot of flex in the flag itself. Included with the matte box are numerous solid donuts for different lens sizes and for smaller lenses they included a cloth donut. Pretty much everything you need is here unlike Bright Tangerine that keeps having you buy things like the flag or the rail bracket separately. The filter system is quite unique. You can use up to 3 filters. Now this box doesn't use filter trays which for me was a positive. This enables me to use either 4x5.6 filters or the smaller 4x4 filters. What makes the filter mounting unique is that you can actually tilt the top of the filters back (you can only do this when using a maximum of 2 filters) which will help reduce any glare you might encounter. The filters stay in place with a rail system at the bottom of the matte box and a thumb clip at the top. I was a little concerned that this system might not fold my filters in place securely but I put in 2 filters and tilted my rig so the matte box was facing down and shook the camera side to side and the filters stayed in place just fine so no worries there. It mounts on a 15mm rail bracket and you can easily slide the matte box out of the way. There is a couple screws you can loosen and actually tilt the entire matte box if you needed to as well as lower or raise the matte box from the rail bracket. I am incredibly happy with the quality of this matte box. Yes, this isn't cheap. But this is the type of quality gear you are going to have for years to come. As the saying goes "Buy cheap, buy twice. Buy once, cry once." ... show more

  • Lightweight, good quality
This is no doubt one of the best matte boxes out there. You can see and feel the quality. It’s on the expensive side but totally worth it if you can afford it. My only issue is if you don’t have the exact size of their rings there is no adapter that can make it work with your lens, at least I looked and couldn’t find. So make sure your lenses thread size match with what’s available. Other than than, great product. ... show more
