Description

Quickly set up fencing in any outdoor area with Zareba Black Step-In Fence Posts. Each post features a step-in flange with anti-rotation spike to secure it in the ground as well as 8 clips that are big enough to hold 2-inch poly tape. To install, just set up your fence perimeter with the step-in posts and then run your fence line between them. These fence posts are 39 inches above ground after installation. Zareba designed these posts with electric fencing in mind, but they can also be used for setting up perimeters for crowd control, construction zones and property marking. The step-in posts can also hold decorations or serve as a vegetable or plant stakes. Each post is constructed with durable polypropylene and steel, Zareba built these fence posts to last while being easy to install and remove. The built-in clips are set at the following heights (measured from the top of the step-in flange): 5.00 in, 9.50 in, 12.50 in, 17.45 in, 21.45 in, 26.75 in, 30.10 in, 35.25 in (highest fence height).

The other 10 inches of the post are underground. I needed 3.5 foot posts and I didn't carefully read the feedback. My Bad for misunderstanding that they were counting the underground stakes as part of the overall height. The intro should have tipped me off "Zareba A-48B 4-Inch Step-In Fence Post - Electric Fence System Post - 50 Posts" As there is nothing 4-inch in the overall equation, since the stakes are 10 inches long and the posts are 38 inches above the ground. The stakes themselves are very flexible, and if the wires at the corners are pulled too tight, the posts will bow inwards. I've used these posts for a few months now, and they have worked very well and are easy to use. The price is right if you need these quantities, far lower price than you can get them elsewhere. The multiple brackets fit either tape or wire, and they hold the wire well (it won't come out if simply pushed up). For cattle I used the 2nd from the top, but it would be quite easy to put two wires at different heights. I used a spacing of 6', which is quite secure. Right now I'm using them in a new pasture that is not totally fenced, making an enclosure 100x100x100' with the fourth side being existing fencing. At the two corners I put T-posts because the corner would be the place stress would be most likely to bring a post down. You could round the corners pretty easily without the T-posts. The posts are moderately strong, but I would not recommend them for hard, dry, frozen, or very rocky soil without either wetting or using something to make a pilot hole. I've used them only in wet pasture, and for that, I used a combination of the foot step and pushing down from the top. All 50 went in without a glitch. However, when I hit an occasional rock, I could feel flex in the foot step that gives me concern of some other reviewers, namely that the foot step could break off. I have not used them in very cold or freezing weather, and I would be concerned about the plastic becoming brittle. Finally, the best use of these posts is probably not for primary enclosures, which I'm using right now since the fence on the new pasture is not complete. I have just one feeder steer, and I open a gate to let him in morning and chase him out and close it at night. He leaped the fence one time in a fit of exuberance, hit the wire (actually polystrand synthetic with small stainless wires within it); good thing was that the posts flexed and did not break or come out of the ground, making flexibility so the wire did not break. The bad part was that he took off -- but chasing him back in was facilitated by simply laying down about 5 fenceposts and re-inserting them after he was inside. I've also watched herds of up to 12 deer grazing on the new grass and encountering the wire, getting shocked. Some would run away, others would leap and come down on the wire -- but no breakage or removed posts. This winter I will complete the primary fence on this pasture and use these posts simply to subdivide the pasture to rotate grazing. I'd not suggest these for primary enclosures for cattle -- but they're probably OK for sheep. ... show more

I like the height of the pole and the different clips to adjust the fence height. The hard part, for me, was trying to get the wire fencing to line up with the pole clips to secure the fence to the poles. I couldn’t get it to line up so I only latched one part of the wire fence. It is holding up the fence though. The poles are excellent for going deep in the ground even in my loose semi-sandy soil. ... show more
