  • Defective Jaw, I Did Not Recommend, now I Recommend - Very Good Customer Service
Material Type: Plastic
First day of use, one of the three magnets came loose (there are three per side). I contacted Yost about this, and Yost responded very quickly. Yost's response - get some super glue and glue it back in place. I responded that I didn't want to repair the item as they suggested, I had no confidence that the remaining magnets would stay in their place. I did not hear back from Yost subsequently. The jaws are being returned to Amazon. I do not recommend this product. Part 2 - Received belated email from Yost, apologizing for delay in responding and advising a replacement jaw was being sent. I was pleased to receive Email and am not returning jaws after all. As a foot note - before loss of magnet I had used jaws to hold a threaded rod in place while cutting it with an angle grinder. The jaws held the rod firmly in place and did not damage the threads, an outcome which would be impossible without the jaws Part 3 Yost replaced the jaws very quickly, Yost stands behind their products. I applaud them for that. ... show more

  • Wimpy and slippery
Material Type: Plastic
The media could not be loaded. I've got a beast of a Yost vise, and it's been a great tool. I was looking forward to these pads for some pen turning I've been doing. Nope! The magnets are flimsy and the plastic is very slippery. Maybe it'd hold a pipe... anything else wants to slide and deflect. Any deflection pushes the pads off the jaws and your workpiece goes flying! Remember, it's a giant Yost vise with plenty of metal to sit on. My pinky finger flips the plastic off with almost no force. Yost makes good vises, but apparently bad pads. "YOAST! DON'T YOU TAKE OUT MY SON!!!" That movie always pops in my head with this brand... ... show more

  • Nice set of soft jaws with one design flaw
Material Type: Plastic
Purchased these to assist in assembling iron pipe lamps and other "industrial" home décor. Generally I like them though they are a little softer than I would prefer. It's challenging to find something that will not mar the metal while still being strong enough to hold it secure when applying a lot of torque. Like most soft jaws, these have several rare earth magnets embedded in them to hold them against the vise's metal jaws. The issue with these is that the magnets are located directly in line with the primary groove that runs the length of the soft jaws and if you clamp something round (or any shape I might guess) too tightly, you risk cracking or breaking one or more of the magnets. Rare earth magnets are very brittle by their nature. The design would benefit from having the magnets offset away from any of the clamping grooves. I only broke one of the magnets and the jaws are still completely functional but depending on your environment, having little flecks of really strong magnet material floating around could cause problems. ... show more

  • Ok, but not multi function
Material Type: Plastic
These work to protect items from the vise jaws but don't plan on using the multifunction grooves easily. The set is cast from the same mold so when the grooves face each other on the vise the vertical groove aligns with the diagonal, etc

  • I’m tempted to buy a second set
Material Type: Plastic
I don’t like that the description uses the word ‘plastic’....hard to sell ’plastic’ construction. Nylon is a plastic but a super plastic thus ‘Nylon’. The compression properties these have shown makes me believe they are higher quality urethane. These jaw pads were made for my 6” woodworking vise. Perfect addition. The magnets stick very well and I’ve been impressed with the new ways my vise can hold items now. Paid less than 10 and prime shipping equals a pay on the back to me. I Just put another in my cart because I don’t see any others out there with this value per buck. ... show more

  • Very thick, soft and almost spongy
Material Type: Plastic
I bought these at the same time I bought my Yost 5 inch vise. I absolutely love my vise. These jaw covers are only so so. They are super thick. Soft and rubbery. The magnets are not strong and they shatter with very minimal use. I think they material could be thinner and the material firmer. I don't have anything else to use so I will use these and make do. I did use a terry cloth towel today to hold some fittings that I did not want to damage, I had to because these jaw covers are way too soft to hold the fittings while being tightened. The fittings would just turn while clamped in these jaw covers. I can't really recommend these. ... show more

  • and they seem nice. Magnets are strong
Material Type: Plastic
Just received these, and they seem nice. Magnets are strong, and the material is a hard plastic, but it is on the soft side which I was hoping for. By that I mean, you can press your thumb nail into it a bit. I will be trimming them down to fit my vise more flush. All the magnets contact fully on the 4 1/2 inch jaws of my vise, for those who were wondering that. For those with even smaller vises, the outside edges of the magnets measure 3 & 3/4 inches. ... show more

  • Quite impressive & durable.
Material Type: Plastic
I wanted this to keep from damaging delicate items and this is perfect. Last week I used it to hold my pruning saw blade as I sharpened it before cutting our Christmas tree. Yes, it was a Chevy Chase moment in the woods, just not as big of a tree! I’ve also used it for holding pipe, pounding on it, even soldering on it without issue. ... show more
