My neurologist uses Dohm for his sleep studies and that’s how I found out about Dohm, because he had me use it for my narcolepsy diagnosis. I’ve used it every night for two years. It’s great. It’s 5 stars as a product, however, the reason for four stars is that there should really be a label on the machine stating to ONLY USE IT IN THE UNITED STATES NO MATTER WHAT. If you’re going to buy this, you should etch this review in the back of your mind permanently. The “NO MATTER WHAT” part is incredibly important. This machine is essential for my sleep hygiene so I bring it everywhere… unfortunately that includes my current trip to Europe. I checked the bottom of the Dohm for the volts and currents to make sure my travel adapter and converter for Europe were compatible with my Dohm. The hotel we’re staying at is under construction and we didn’t find out until we got here. Luckily, I thought I’d have my Dohm with me to block out the construction in the morning. When it was time for bed, I hooked it up to the adapter and converter, turned it on, and immediately it started making a weird noise before it started smoking. It’s completely burnt and I now have to shell out another $40 for the white noise machine. There’s cheaper ones, but Dohm is so high quality and sleep is so essential for my narcolepsy. I don’t know why it happened, I mean I used both the power adapter and power converter which matched the power for the Dohm machine. I looked it up and it’s inside their manual, but that’s not something a customer is going to remember years down the road. I think this is definitely something that should be on the bottom of the machine next to the volts and watts. I hope Dohm starts putting it on there in the future. Their manual clearly states this, that even if you have a power adapter/converter to not use it. You have to buy the Dohm built specifically for that country. So to reiterate, this product is amazing and if you’re reading this, I highly recommend buying it. It’s probably worth the extra money compared to other white noise machines. However, DO NOT USE IT OUTSIDE OF THE US UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. EITHER LEAVE IT AT HOME, OR BUY THE EUROPEAN VERSION FOR THE EU IF YOU EVER PLAN ON TRAVELING THERE. ADAPTERS/CONVERTERS WONT WORK EVEN IF THEY’RE COMPATIBLE ON PAPER. IT COULD CAUSE A FIRE. ... show more

Eight years ago, I purchased the Dohm for my newborn's room, since we lived in the bottom floor of a not-so-quiet apartment complex, and I lived in daily fear of the baby getting woken by neighbors. Fast forward to today, it's still going strong! I'm so impressed, I just had a write a review. ;) Sound: I remember deciding against a digital noise machine because I didn't think I'd like an artificial-sounding white noise. I like the fan sound of the Dohm. It isn't going to completely block out noise (and I can't tell you how often I fantasized about sound-proofing our apartment unit when I was up in the middle of the night feeding the baby), but it allows noise to fade into the background, and definitely helps to prevent noises from waking you up. It did the trick for us. Durability: I'll also mention that we have used the Dohm daily for the past 8 years on the high setting. Sometimes we would accidentally leave it running for days at a time. We have taken it with us wherever we go, which of course means it's been dropped many times. This machine doesn't seem to care. We needed a background white noise machine to replace the one we were using. This one is perfect because you can use a lamp timer with it as opposed to the white noise machines that have a built in timer. I don’t need any other background noise but white noise. A device that uses all the nature sounds would not work for us…I’d probably be up all night using the bathroom with the rain or waterfall noise! I love the sound of a floor fan but hate the look of it in my room. This small machine has an internal fan that produces 3 amplified sound levels, not just a white noise production of sound. Simple to use: plug in, turn on, and rotate the body of the compartment and top to adjust the volume.
