  • DON'T CHANGE THE PADS! (HYBRID OR VELOUR), MICROSUEDE OK
I get it, the comfort is not that good with the original earpads as they get hot very quick, but if you look at the measurements of this headphone, the mids are not that great, changing the pads to brainwavz hybrid would RUIN the sound, the mids become even more recessed, also the bass increases way too much and bleeds into the mids, not to mention the treble that already has peaks and dips with the default pads, gets even worse and fatiguing. Brainwavz velour would tame the bass but the treble gets even brighter, not recommended either. If you must replace the pads choose the brainwavz microsuede, the mids remain overall OK but are much easier to EQ, the treble doesn't get harsh, but the bass still increases, in fact the bass is not as good as with the hybrid pads but is not the worst either, if I had to describe it, it sounds as if you were listening to the bass in a room made of rubber, you get used to it but it could be better. With the original pads the sound is slightly above average, not great either but overall better than with the replacement pads mentioned, good for monitoring but the comfort is not there. For $80 you can get the M40x and find EQ profiles (oratory1990, etc) online that improve the sound and make this particular headphone irrelevant. The K371 is also recommended (without EQ). However if you really like this white version and find it at $80 and the comfort is okay to you, you can fix the frequency response with sonarworks (+$80) and IMO at $160 is very competitive even below $250. ... show more

  • Not Great Headphones, but Good Headphones
The sound is above average. The comfort gets a B+. I have two pair. Both treated well by an adult (me). The first one is about three years old and the plastic frame transmits some annoying creaks when you move your head. The second, which I bought 11/2020 but didn't open until 02/2021 had its cord go bad this week. No stepping on it. No chairs rolling over it. The Yamaha replacement cord is $48!!!!! So, I want to like these, but I wonder if I'd buy another pair. For the price, I'd expect YEARS of use! Such are products today. I'm going to buy a 3 or 4 foot replacement cord because 3m was too long anyway for my uses. ... show more

  • My Second Favorite Set of Headphones
I Ordered These Headphones For Several Reasons - I've Had YAMAHA Products In the Past, I Needed a Set That Would Be a 'Backup' Pair To my Sennheisers, A Pair That Was White in Color. These Headphones Are quite Comfortable, Sound Pretty Good For The $$$ (Only Get Better With Age). I Replaced The Cable That Came With Them With NewFantasia Replacement/Audio Upgrade Cables For $13.50 (Well Worth The Cost). The Stock Cables Are Way Too Long in Length To The Point of Ridiculousness. ... show more

  • Sounds good for mixing
More realistic bass than my old tascams which where the ones that are a 100 dollars but are always on sale for 20 dollars. Pretty accurate actually always matches up with my iloud speakers.

  • Bright and Bass heavy
Good sound isolation, low mechanical noise. High efficiency plays loudly from my LG V30. My usual headphones are AKG 712 or Shure E4 IEM's. Honestly they are so bright they made my inner ears feel hot. Definitely not neutral or for mastering purposes, but for live music, and listening at low volumes may be just the ticket. My quest for work headphones under $200 continues. ... show more

  • On point
I use them in my studio for recording, and have heard all good things. I personally mix in them when I'm on the road

  • Good sounding headphones
These fit perfectly over my apparently large ears. These are the only over ear headphones that I own that I can comfortably wear for many hours.
