  • Totally awesome by surprise!!
After having my relatively new 2cycle (HF) auger crap out on me.. with 20 holes to go.. and wasted half a day tinkering on it , I happened on this electric auger. Being a little skeptical, but overwhelmed by the idea of being able to just pick it up and have a usable tool, I went for it. I have a small 80cc firman generator that worked just fine. I threw it on the tractor along with the auger, and took off. I WAS BLOW AWAY BY THIS LITTLE BEAST!!! It munched through roots, and dug into gumbo (a thick clay soil that’s either gooey or super hard ..smoking tools in a heartbeat)… This little auger made my day so easy!! Really.. I don’t want to work harder.. the ergonomics are good, and I was less fatigued due to its lighter weight! My post are 200lbs, so any cut on labor is a blessing. And do you know what the next best part is??? I know that if it sits for a year.. it’s still gonna work!!! I am delighted with this purchase!! And I hope it does as well for you!! I have a feeling I will be digging more holes just because it is so darn effective! Quality: good, Power: good, ergonomics: good. Auger bit: good, sharp. I do hope this tool makes you as happy as it did me. ... show more

  • Excellent! Powerful and quick
This thing digs the holes in like 10 seconds. Really easy to use. The included 6" auger is perfect for the 4" posts also. My soil didn't have any roots, but this has cutting blades sort of built in the auger which look like they would work well cutting roots...and you can sharpen the blades. • Very powerful
This is much stronger than I expected! It digs quickly through hard clay, but gives you quite a knock if you hit a rock or root. Just let go rather than break a wrist. A reverse switch would be very helpful. I also got a 12" auger for planting small trees and general digging. Great buy.

  • Exceeded my expectations!
Was looking for an auger for various uses such as holes for posts as well as planting rose bushes for my wife. I initially thought I’d go with a 2 stroke gas powered unit but with troubles I’ve experienced with 2 stroke gear that I I don’t use that often the carbs gum up etc and can become hard to start. Having had good results with a small electric rototiller I decided to give this a try. I also bought a 10” auger bit to try. Well, I started with the bit that came with it. Think it is a 6” bit. We had a fair amount of rain the day before so the ground wasn’t rock hard. This machine drilled right in without any issues. I then put on the 10” bit to enlarge the 6” hole. It worked surprisingly well. The motor had good torque and didn’t seem to strain at all. Next I tried drilling a new hole with the 10” bit. It was a little slower going but I kept pulling the machine out and plunging it back it. I hit a few small roots and that twisted the machine such that I had to remove pressure from the switch to stop the machine. I straighten out the machine, applied power, and pulled back to extricate the bit. I’ve used this machine to drill out 20 holes. As mentioned the machine had plenty of torque for my needs. If the motor lasts a few years I’d say this is a good value with little to no maintenance required. Plug and play! One more thing, it did come with a spare set of motor brushes so I anticipate I’ll have to replace the ones that are already installed at some point. ... show more

  • Solid electric auger.
I'll start by stating this in the only auger of this size I have used so I have no base comparison to a gas auger. That said I've been very pleased with the results from it. I was using it today to dig deep into my yard trying to access my main sewer line. In about 4-5 hours between loosing the earth with this auger and hand shoveling out the dirt I managed to get a roughly 3' wide x 5' long x 6' deep hole. Unfortunately I still didn't locate the piping but it is not due to this tool by any means. I was very skeptical about purchasing this unit since the market seems dominated by gas augers but I'm glad I did now. It does torque hard on stone and roots, both of which I found plenty of during my dig. If you take your time and brace with your legs against the bars it doesn't seem to be to bad of an issue though and I imagine that's just part of using this type of device in general. If I had to say something bad about the unit it would be how the auger itself attaches to the top with the motor. Unlike other reviews my pin fit just fine without any drilling needed but it was a loose fit and the auger has a little bit of wiggle room (again my only auger other then a power drill bit so this might be a positive for all I know). Cord can also be annoying but it is a corded auger so that is just fact of the matter. Personally found tossing the cord over my shoulder as the best way to keep it out of my way. If my only goal was digging some fence post holes or something similar it would work great from what I've seen so far. Can't speak as to the things longevity yet as its less then a day old but I will update when I think of it or use it after my current project. A reverse would be great for situations where say the auger buries itself under a root, managed to work mine free any time it was an issue but it would just be easier to pop it into reverse. ~~Advice on using the product if purchasing Take your time Pull it back up to remove earth often Brace handle bars against leg Clear rocks and roots with something other then the auger Take your time, let the machine do the work and don't make it torque tweaking a hand or wrist. ... show more
