🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The product under review is a powerful, efficient gasoline-powered auger which, once properly established, can quickly dig several holes, making plantings and post-installations a breeze. The device is fairly heavy but in return, guarantees excellent build quality and performance that has won many users' praise, despite the learning curve of correct operation and fuel mixing process. It does, however, have some minor durability issues, as evidenced by reports of a breakable choke lever and a bent handle after installation.

Pros

  • 👍 Quick and efficient: Can dig multiple holes in short periods.
  • 👍 Powerful: Handles different types of soil, including rocky and clay-based soils quite well.
  • 👍 Responsive seller: Any issues arising from product usage are quickly rectified.
  • 👍 Good fuel efficiency: Users report a low gas usage compared to the output.

Cons

  • 👎 Challenging initial setup: Fuel/oil mixing instructions and operation manual could be better written.
  • 👎 Minor durability issues: Some clients have reported an easily breakable choke lever and a bent handle.
  • 👎 Weight: The tool is heavy, leading to fatigue during extensive projects.
  • 👎 Can be difficult to use in rocky soils: The tool may struggle with larger rocks and has a potential for injury if not handled properly.

Should I Buy It?

If you're involved in various gardening projects that require a lot of hole digging, this product should be right up your alley. Despite the reported minor durability issues and the learning curve for its operation, the auger has proved itself in speed, efficiency, and power making it a worthy investment. Just ensure you have the patience to learn its operation and the physical strength to use this fairly heavy tool.

  • Great value

This is an excellent tool and was awesome at digging post holes for fencing. Very powerful and easily dug through compacted soil. I would highly recommend this product. Very easy to put together and started right up. The mix is 40:1 and I recommend using premium. I did not do this but thinking that adding some foam padding (pool noodles) to handle would be a great way to prevent bruising on legs when you hit a rock! ... show more

  • Great product for the price
Size Name: 52cc+2 bit(6"10")+3 Ext(8"12"20")
drilled 50 post holes in two days without issue. my only concern is from day one it will only run with the choke set about half way, It has not affected it's performance at all and it starts quickly.

  • Dirt auger
Size Name: 52cc+3 bit(4"6"8")+3 Ext(8"12"20")
Going to use the auger planting hundreds of tomato plants and pepper plants. Since it’s winter time now I did get the engine running and put a whole few holes in the garden just to make sure it works upon receipt. Worked beautifully.

  • Wow!
Size Name: 52cc+2 bit(6"10")+3 Ext(8"12"20")
This thing is now getting cheaper than when i bought it! I used my dad's HF auger and decided I needed one! This doesn't have the power or heavier duty bits that dad's does, but it does fine in our sand and light clay. The fuel mix ratio is very odd. It starts easy, every time. The HF auger bits would cut roots. This won't. If you're digging anywhere with even finger sized roots, run barely above idle. Why? Because when it grabs a root, the bit stops and the powerhead spins. It will twist your arms like a pretzel, faster than you can let go or jump off the ground. I literally thought it ripped my forearm muscles. I was sore for days. I use a Sawzall to cut the roots I hit, then keep digging. I'm about 1/3 done with a 500+ foot fence, no hiccups. The extensions will be nice when I get down near the creek and need to dig 4 feet. Try that with manual post hole diggers. The HF auger didn't have extensions either. As long as I don't have the starting issues others complained about, I call this a win! Buy it! ... show more

  • amateur and light duty usage intended .

Alright so this product isn't bad it's reasonably price and works decently. My only concern is that that rubber left hand handle was not properly bonded to the handle and slid right off during use. I gorilla glued it on there, not a big issue. The other issue is the right hand plastic control grip, it's pretty flimsy. Now I'm not sure I'm being fair on judging it because like I said in the title it's probably great for most applications. However, I'm putting in a fence with 42" post holes, 34" is clay. The control handle has pulled apart twice and it pull the internal pin of the orange safety button, on the top side, out of it's proper alignment. Had to take it apart both times, not a huge deal but it's a time sink. Other than that it runs decently enough. I had to switch down to the 6" bit instead of the 10" because the clay, even water saturated, was stalling it out. Overall, it's a decent product and again I recommend it for light duty work (looser soil types) . ... show more

  • It is probably worth five stars if not for one thing
Size Name: 52cc+2 bit(6“10”)
The instructions are written in English by someone who obviously doesn’t speak English and are not good but that’s the only reason why I knocked off a star. The photo shows the switch in the on position. When you are trying to decipher the instructions there isn’t anything that indicates settings for on/off nor the setting for choke/run. The item is pretty heavy so it’s frustrating not feeling confident starting it for the first time. That being said I used the tool to dig 30 holes to plant tree saplings in around 90 minutes. It would have gone faster but I took some breaks to rest because the tool is pretty heavy. I used the 10” diameter auger and dug to depths of around 18” on average. The ground was softer than normal here in Southern Indiana in late February than it would be trying to dig in the Fall. Once you get it running here are things I learned today which made the last holes I dug go much better than the first ones I dug. 1). Try to push away any tall weeds or vines to expose the dirt if possible. Next time I’ll bring a garden hoe or a metal rake to make this easier. Otherwise the weeds will wrap around the bottom of the auger and you’ll have to stop to get them off as they block the auger blade and this will wear you out. 2). Let the tool dig gradually, it will still go fast. By letting the auger go slowly and not pushing hard if it strikes roots or rocks it is able to cut the roots a little at a time and dislodge and throw out the rocks. I learned early on if you push downward the auger will strike items too large to cut with one swoop and that is where the possibility of it whipping your arms or body around happens. Also, the auger will then be stuck unable to move forward and there is no reverse. So when this happened on my first few holes I had to rock the tool back and forth to get the blade out from beneath large roots, and this was very labor intensive and the sudden jerk stopping runs the risk of injury. The auger successfully shaved through many roots when I allowed it to take a little at a time and then would take off again when the root was completely cut through. Good luck! ... show more
