  • Best rotary on the market HANDS DOWN!
This kit comes with everything you need to get started engraving mugs, tumblers and even things like tennis and baseballs. You do need to calibrate the steppers first. Pros: easy to setup, most versatile, the finger extensions for rings are amazing, switch from roller to chuck with ease, solid and stays put, just works. Cons (sort of): no way to level to piece on the rotary with putting sometime under the entire rotary's edge. Btw, I haven't seen a rotary that didn't have this issue in the sub $300 range so, yeah. Not really a stopper as it is easy to do but I would have liked to see a 'threaded foot " on one end that allows for that. My 3d printer is printing said foot as we speak. Other than that, but this. Even if you have another laser, this will work. It comes with a handful of cables extensions and adapters to connect to your laser. It works by having you unplug your Y axis and plug this in its place. This means that if you have a Y axis on your laser, this should work. ... show more

  • Chuck attachment has been a key benefit
Bought this to work with a laser from a different vendor. Connection was smooth, guessed wrong initially about the right connection cable to use, the stepper made an angry noise, so I switched cables and got smooth sailing. Started out with the rollers, which is the configuration it ships in. Rollers feel very grippy so when I had problems returning accurately to the same location in the rotary axis I looked elsewhere. I also tried very light (empty soda can) and very heavy (big Yetis filled with weights) objects, but always had the same problem. Once I'd eliminated everything else I realized it was slipping in direction reversals, even when I reduced maximum rotary axis acceleration to a tiny fraction of normal settings, for achingly slow direction changes. The upshot seemed to be that the rollers are good enough if you set the job to engrave from start to finish without reversals. It will probably be off scale-wise by a tiny bit at the end of the job, but any miniscule slips throughout the job are too small to see. This has 2 implications: can only do raster-style engraving (i.e. no vector lines, text outlining, or the like), and speed: I was doing filled logos and text, so doing everything raster-style in one pass was workable, but it meant lots of inefficient travel moves with the laser off while it did 2 separate areas of engraving with an empty gulf in between. Turning off LightBurn's "fill all objects at once" cut the work time in half or so, but any time the rotary backed up you couldn't count on perfect alignment, so sequence of fill was important. Switched to the chuck, to avoid worry about slipping, and everything was dead-on, all the time. Great results and a very flexible range of mounting and stabilization options! Was glad I'd decided to pay the extra amount for this xTool product, with all its extra options. Be nice if there were an extra adjustment or 2, e.g., to help level tapered objects, as it's a bit of a pain to be messing with shims under the rotary while trying to get everything set up, but overall happy with the purchase, a good value. I got the laser for some professional tasks, but the rotary has been just for fun so far. In a couple of months I've done literally dozens of gift-y objects, especially stainless water bottles & beer glasses. They're my new default gift for many occasions, and I feel like it's effectively paid for this rotary over and over. ... show more

  • Better than rollers alone
I have the roller version of this & the chuck gives you so many more options. I thought it was easy to set up - I configured with the chuck & I'll use my other rig when I need rollers. (Too tedious to switch this unit between types when i have the other one too). It worked great right out of the gate. I do think it's a bit over priced... but it is solid (metal construction) and works smoothly. ... show more

  • Easy add-on!
The media could not be loaded. Truly a nice add on for the laser cutter. The big thing I will suggest is you need to get two boxes of x-tools raiser footpads which are a 110mm tall each. That will allow you to adjust for the heights needed for most bottles or jugs.
