  • Take the leap! This was my first Xerox machine ever (recommend it)
I've always purchased HP products in the past. I am an IT engineer and do Marketing on the side, so I am very aware of the specs that make or break a machine. I ran into this device looking for speed and 1200 dpi printing quality. I kept seeing 600 dpi in this price range so I expanded my search queries. That's how I found this machine. It was my first Xerox printer. I am very impressed! First, it's very fast. Printing multiple packets of paper causes no hiccups. Second, it has a big paper feed tray and a deep paper well. That means you can leave this thing running for big projects without making multiple trips to empty out what's already printed. Another great thing is that this printer has great toner sizes. It's not cheap (like most toners) but at least you have options of purchasing a 2600-page, 5000-page, and a 9000-page toner. The big one gives you the best value per page, but again, it's pricey (Average ~$250 for the 9000 page size). I've worked on a lot of touch screens built into the printer. This one is very nice. Once in a while it can lag but it's not frustrating. It's very intuitive though-they really put in the effort of creating a modern and simple interface. The experience of using this machine is nice. I like hearing the "finished printing" and "error" sounds - I know its weird but they are helpful without being annoying. The printer driver gives you a lot of additional options when printing (first page from this tray, remaining pages from second tray, etc). Of course, the quality of prints is great. At 1200 x 2400 dpi, it's in the higher-end of the scale. Just make sure you use quality and bright paper that will make the colors and blacks stand out. I compared the quality to an expensive booklet I got printed from FedEx Office. It looked the same to me (and I'm picky), which means this thing is putting out mid-high quality right at home! CONS: It's a great machine but here is what I've learned after having it for a month and a half. 1) The printer will not work if any of the toners are empty. There is no gray scale mode, no bypass/ignore, nothing. It's very annoying if you are hoping to get something on paper, ugly or inaccurate, in an emergency scenario. Plan ahead and have replacement toners ready to go. 2) I live in Seattle and spent an entire day looking for toner I could purchase. I searched retail stores, Xerox partners, printing vendors. The only toner I could for this printer was "metered" toner. The chips on these toners (equal color, size, shape, etc) are coded for the same printers that are managed in a meter plan with local printer companies (those that are leased and priced per page). These won't work with wholesale printers (like buying with Amazon). Plan on always needing to wait 2-3 days (if you have Prime, longer if you don't) for an Amazon shipment of toner to arrive. Big inconvenience when you're used to going to OfficeMax or Staples to pick up ink or toner for your machine. Nonetheless, these cons don't stop me from recommending the printer to people. I found the experience, speed, and quality too great for me to let the cons change my mind on my decision. I'm looking forward to replacing other machines with a Xerox. ... show more

  • Small Business Printer Does the Job
I have a small business making cards, planners, calendars and framed prints. My business is still young enough that I can't afford a large workhorse printer, so I bought this "entry-level" printer as an upgrade to my slow canon laser printer that printed very slowly with loooooong wait times between prints. When it first arrived, I hooked it up to my laptop and printed a page on cardstock. I was extremely impressed with the print speed but was disappointed that the print had stripes on the image, likely due to a toner belt that had been sitting in a warehouse too long. I called the Xerox repair person, who came over and replaced the entire belt unit for free, since the printer is under warranty. Upon printing the same image again, the stripes were far less noticeable and the image was really fabulous compared to previous home laser prints I'd made. If you really analyze the photo, you might see some faint lines from the belt in the background, but you'd have to look pretty hard. One other issue with the printer is double-sided printing. On regular paper, it does an amazing job. On cardstock though, the alignment is completely off. In order to get the results you want, you need to manually reload the cardstock and print on the opposite side of the page. The toner cost is heinous if you purchase name-brand toner! Approximately $820 for all 4 extended life Xerox toner cartridges. More expensive than the printer itself. Approximately $150 will get you a full set of extended life knock-off toner, but Xerox always warns that if a problem with the printer arises from the use of non-Xerox toner, they won't fix your printer for free anymore. It sounds like I have many complaints, but this really is the fastest printer I've ever had with by far the best image quality for a laser printer. Color matching isn't perfect, but the results are nice, even with the colors off a bit from the computer screen. Here are my overall ratings: Image quality gets a 4-4.5/5 Color matching gets a 4/5 The printer speed gets a 5/5 The cost of toner gets a 1.5-2/5 Customer service: 4.5/5 Overall experience: 4/5 ... show more

  • Worst service ever - Printer out of operation FOR A FULL WEEK - Disrupting my business!
I bought this printer in April of this year. This is the third time it has been out of use (down, out of operation, not working) since we got it. Every time, we have had to call the company and wait several days for us to hear back from a technician. This time, we called Wednesday and Thursday last week. It is now Monday and we have heard NOTHING!!!! In the meantime, my business is limping along using our multifunction machine that I bought years ago to be a small copier and fax machine, and which is not made for the heavy work our printer must do daily. I am very unhappy. I wish I had stayed with HP when my old workhorse finally died. Yes, I am very unhappy with this purchase. IT HAS NOW BEEN ONE FULL WEEK, AND THEY ARE NOT YET ABLE TO TELL ME WHEN THEY WILL SEND A TECHNICIAN. I may have to buy another laser printer! ... show more

  • Love the new printer
Love the new printer. When I first called Xerox to get some support on printing envelopes, they said they would not support it where we bought it through AMAZON and not through them or CDW (was cheaper on AMAZON). Had to get mean and tough with them and they ultimately caved. If they sell the product to AMAZON or allow AMAZON to carry and sell, they have to support it. Just be aware that you might have to get tough with XEROX if they give you the same grief. ... show more
