  • easy to install, does the job
Size: 3 Steps
I was required to add a rail to a set of 3 steps. It did the job, sturdy, easy to install.

  • Easily installs…but
Size: 5 Steps
I love the look and simplicity of this. In theory it is sturdy, however even though I drilled the pilot holes as directed, all 8 of the bolts deteriorated while I was securing them in. Also, this may have been returned, most of the protective wrapping and styrofoam was missing, and the bolts were loos in the box. ... show more

  • Buy this railing
This really is a great rail for the price. If anyone gives it a negative review it's probably because they ordered the wrong amount of stairs or were expecting free installation with their order. I purchased 2. One for the front and the other for the back entrances. I used a 3/16 x 6" SDS drill bit with 1/4" x 2 1/4" long hex head Tapcon screws-although you do not need to purchase bits or screws as this railing includes everything you need for installation. The bits and screws included seem to be decent quality. I just opted for longer screws. I drilled eight holes, put the screws in, snapped the decorative covers on and tightened the rest of the included screws and then repeated the process for the other rail. Only other suggestion that would make this railing even better would be a small bottle of touch up paint to touch up a few spots that may possibly happen while assembling the rail. I used some gloss black to touch up some minor nicks. Hopefully the welds and the matte black finish last for a while. I very highly recommend this rail. It's good looking, very sturdy, easy to install and makes a great added safety feature. ... show more

  • There's Nothing Easy About Installing These Rails on Concrete Steps!
Size: 5 Steps
This review is not so much about the quality, brand, or design of these steps, tho I will touch on those issues a little too. It's more about the sheer difficulty of securing these rails to concrete steps. First, unless the concrete you have is the consistency of butter or dry wall, there is NO WAY you are going to be able to use a hand drill to drill your anchor holes. Maybe an impact drill will work, but you are really going to need a hammer drill. There is a reason why the cheap drill bit that comes in the kit has 4 slots at the base. It is designed for a hammer drill for a reason. I still had to go to Lowes to buy a better drill bit so prepare to tack on another $15 onto the price of these steps at least. Thank God my brother-in-law had a hammer drill. Otherwise, the job would not have been completed. I would have had to buy or rent a hammer drill to install these rails. Second, beware of the horrible concrete anchors that come with this rail kit. They are flimsy & cheap so be warned. Third, there is no way you can get away with pre-drilling your anchor holes first and then expect the rail base plate holes to line up. Not going to happen in a million years. We had to bore out all 4 holes of each metal base plate first, using a metal drill bit. We then positioned each base plate on the concrete then drilled the holes from the top of the anchor plate with the hammer drill. The anchors were pushed into the holes from the top of the metal base plate and then secured by tightening the anchor nut. Attacking this step from the bottom of the base plate was absolutely futile. Lastly, the base covers for the columns are cheap plastic. They look terrible, like plastic would against nice black powder coated metal rails. They should have been made with the same metal too. Anyway, they are up. And they are sturdy. And they will serve the purpose for our homeowner's insurance company that is sucking us dry with inspection infractions like step rails. Good luck with the installation! It took 2 people 2 hours for mine. ... show more
