I really need a new deck, but since that isn't an option right now, I needed to make some changes. I have never had a handrail. I didn't want a railing. This handrail is perfect for what I needed. I liked that it was easy to assemble but not so easy to install in concrete. The concrete lag bolts were very cheap. No drill bit size was given to drill into concrete. I had to go online to find that out. Even with the correct hole size the lag bolts had to be hammered into the drilled hole and it would bend or dis form the threaded bolt. There was no mention of how deep to drill the holes and very difficult to remove from hole once installed if not deep enough. I would still buy one again but would go to a hardware store and purchase a 3/8” redhead lag bolt and also the lag bolt install tool so as not to deform threaded portion of the lag bolt. When you buy a redhead lag bolt the drill bit size for the hole and its depth is shown on packaging. Also the rail is a painted rail and not powder coated. It scratches very easily. Ours tipped over on to concrete while installing and got severely scratched. We used a black touch up paint marker to cover up the scratches. We used this for a small landing with 4 steps. It was heavy and had a nice black finish to it. It was easy to adjust and install using the wood screws that were provided. After installation it felt very firm, solid, and you could trust putting weight on it going up or down the stairs. I was surprised at how sturdy it was given the price point. We've only had it installed for a few months, so we'll see if the finish lasts with our yearly weather changes. ... show more

I read reviews on many of these stair handrails from a variety of suppliers. I picked this one because I felt it was made better. The hardware was great and I did use their anchors in the concrete steps and it held well. I did add some black caulking material to the ends of the rails because they did rattle without this. And thier is a bit of rust but that is part of having metal outdoors. I coated the areas with a light oil and that seems to be working well. ... show more

The railing was a decent price, fairly easy to put together and install but the paint is chipping right away. I installed this today and the pictures show how easily the paint flakes off. I'm concerned it will probably rust. I was going to order a 2nd rail for the other side of my porch steps, but not so sure it's worth it. The good. Rail itself if good, fits good, sturdy metal The bad Slow shipping from California, concrete shields are low quality, but the junk in box are small Allen keys,2, that are cheap and don't fit well. The supplies wrench is worthless for the metric size nuts. Overall. If your handy, and have tools, this railing is great for the money, expect to buy better concrete shields and use your own wrenches, hammer drill, concrete bits, etc. If your not handy this railing isn't for you. Or pay somebody. Took me start to finish say 1.5 hours to install. Paint finish is good. Packed well in box. ... show more
