I looked for a hand rail for the concrete steps of my front porch at all of the common home improvement stores, but all they offered were horizontal hand rail sections for decks. So then I looked on Amazon, and found a good selection. This particular product seemed to be the most highly reviewed, so I ordered it and gave it a chance. Well, I was not disappointed! Everything was of good quality and I was pleasantly surprised that it even came with a few extra parts (screws and such). Installation was a cinch, and the end result looks good and sturdy, if a little bit clunky looking (but I'll take good and sturdy over a little bit clunky looking any day). The only thing that I would warn you about is that its span is a bit short. I bought the 3 step span and it just barely fit! Seriously, if it had been even a centimeter shorter, it would not have fit. I honestly don't know if I would have been better off ordering the 4 step span instead, but I mention this so that you can take it into consideration. In short, this is the hand rail to order, but you may want to consider ordering a slightly larger span. ... show more

The product is designed to self install, but barely. Make sure you have some skills for it. Concrete drilling can be easy or hard depending on the age of the concrete you are drilling into. Your drill bit will walk a bit as it bites into a hole, so two of the holes in the base didn't line up exactly as planned. Opened them up with a dremel tool and it was fine. The anchors will stick up slightly above grade when you drill to their depth, it turns out this is intentional as the metal base of the handrail has some thickness to it. I did have to use extra washers on a couple of spots where they were too high (use split washers for more strength). No matter how good your anchors go in or how tight you lock it all down, there is still some marginal wobble to the handrail when you are done. Its not going anywhere, its in solid, but don't expect rock hard resistance when you use it. For where mine is, its fine. Remember to lock down the bolts that put it together AFTER you get it installed. You'll need the play in the angle to set it flat on the base of the concrete. But don't forget that step at the end as it adds strength and solidness to the install. The drill bit they send with it is useless, not an American drill chuck size. My local hardware store set me up with a correct one that fit my drill and it worked fine. I thought I would need a hammer drill, but my normal corded drill did the job no problem. I secured the railing to the stair surface with long lag bolts that went all the way through the composite stair treads and into the wood stair framing. The expansion bolts and hammer drill bit (supplied !) were not required , but would be necessary if putting into concrete. The drill bit is an SDS type so you would beed to own/rent the proper drill for this if needed. Extra hardware was supplied. After tightening up it feels very secure. My wife thinks the risers are to tall , but I think that's just personal preference. ... show more
