Wine is something i know nothing about. I just bought it to gain knowledge and to help me out how to pick which wine to serve on our event next week. This is indeed and informative book. I've learned a lot about wines. Now i know which wines fit for specific occasions. I still don't drink wine though. But at least i know the basic information about it. ... show more

  • Good stuff for good wine
As a huge red wine fan novice, I have plenty to learn about wine especially on the ones that I enjoy. Wine has a deeper meaning other than the taste. It is a very sophisticated product and immensely triggers the inner senses. I needed to know more about this mysterious beverage. The book by Winn definitely would win me over. The teachings are very systematic and easy to understand for any wine beginner ... show more

Uhhhhh.... I don’t know if I can finish. First red flag was when he said that when you smell wine you should be able to smell “the different fruits, herbs, spices, etc. used in the production of the wine.” What? What wine is he drinking? Second was listing South America as a major grape producing countries of the world. And the third and most grievous errors was “Merlot: a red grape that is used to make Cabernet Sauvignon”. I’m only on page 15 and I just can’t go on. Please don’t read this book, the author has NO IDEA what he is saying. I am trying to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope it’s an editing error but.. Merlot is not used to make Cabernet Sauvignon. Your wine should not be produced using herbs and spices. South America is not a country, it’s a continent and in fact it has many wine producing countries within it that all deserve attention for the distinct wines they produce. Buy The Wine Bible by Karen MacNeill instead. ... show more

  • An introduction book
Solid introduction for beginners. Some areas of the book are not exact, but if you want a general idea of the most popular grapes and how wine is made; to be paired, then this is a good read.
