Yes, it bites well on an 8mm rope. But I like that it doesn't do that initial 1/8" slip when shifting my weight onto the rope that sometimes occurs on the ropeman 1 on a 12mm rope. This thing bites and I feel very secure. It can definitely put some wear on your rope if you arent opening it fully but I have used this on my tether while saddle hunting numerous times now and I am completely sattisfied with its intended purpose.     • Very small vesatile rope grab / ascending device. Good bite.
The media could not be loaded. The Ropeman 2 is very small and very grabby when it comes to hanging on to the rope. The tiny teeth are not sharp and do not seem to damage the rope in any way but they do grab the rope so well that if you want to release the grab on an ascent and slide it down toward you the teeth are hard to clear off of the entire rope and that can cause a problem only if you need to slide the Ropeman 2 down, rather than up a rope. Going up on an ascent is so easy once it is attached. It slides effortlessly and grabs fast every time.. Attaching it to the rope is a two handed operation due to the strong spring and small size.. Also i used this on 8mm and 11mm rope and can say with confidence that it will work on these sizes. I think the thickness of the carabiner being used can effect the amount of grab to a small extent on smaller sized 8mm rope because it relies on the carabiner to help push the rope toward the hinged rope grabbing teeth. Wish I could find the MK1. This model works, but the teeth design catches ropes too much. It will fray the rope, if you don’t open the cam all the way. Almost makes it a two handed operation, which is ironic. I use it on my lineman’s rope, going up trees with my lock on, hanging stepping sticks as I go. So I just try not to make it too tight as I go, so I have to let out slack. If you need to let out some slack, don’t pull on the wire tab. Grab the whole thing in your palm and learn to open it with one hand. That’s the biggest issue, is the wire tab doesn’t get the cam clear from the rope enough and the teeth still catch on threads. Or you can pull the tab then lean back and try to get the cam to open more. An MK1 would solve this issue totally for me, but they’re harder to find right now. ... show more

Other reviewers have said that the Ropeman 2 chews up rope. I’ve used mine at least 6-8 times a week for almost 3 months now while climbing into tree stands using cheap 8mm rope with no issues. Unlike the Ropeman 1, which you can ease some tension off of and slide your rope through, the Ropeman 2 has to be opened completely clear of the rope or the teeth will snag the rope. ... show more

Same as other reviews, I use it on an 8mm rope and if you don't cam it all the way open then it will bite and tear up your rope. I am swapping to Kong Duck to see if they work better for me and. I hunt.....we shall see.

Very easy to use. Had to grind a couple of the back teeth down to use it though. I use a static line and it just wouldn’t loosen (which it’s doing it’s job!) I had to pull it too far to use it for I’m hunting the way it came.

Guess I overlooked the fact that it’s rough on ropes. I bought it for use on 8mm rope. The teeth on it are like little spikes. The grab and pull the fibers of the rope out. Very not pleased. Works well and is easy to use. Just destroys rope.
