  • These Work Really Well with Smooth Operation
Color: Left and Right
I use these for climbing the sailboat mast to inspect the standing rigging. The new Sampson Dacron braided lines are very smooth so I needed ascenders rather than using the barrel hitches to tie on the halyards. The teeth on the cams absolutely do not leave any damage to the Dacron cover at all. None. The spring tension on the cams is easy to operate with your thumb and the cam action can be easily, but overtly, moved further outward to lock the cam in the open position for loading/unloading line in the cam. I used these on 1/2" halyard lines for ascending and descending. Some will have other methods of descent, but these work well coming down too. Very happy with the product and price. ... show more

  • Perfectly functional, a few things to be aware of
Color: Left - Orange
I've ascended roughly 1000 feet of rope on this. It works fine for my use case and delivers strong value for the price point, but is not without some flaws. A few things to note: - This is theoretically rated for 8-13mm rope. In practice, I would use 8.5mm-10.5mm. Bigger ropes will drag a lot, and the skinnier ropes, well - you're at the edge of the envelope, and more likely to tear things - The weight rating is less than the weight of two people. So do not use these outside of personal ascending (IE, while you can use them as the capture device for more weight in something like a 3:1 system... you probably shouldn't). - Check your carabiners for fit before you use these. Smaller carabiners (like Camp Photon) or HMS-style carabiners may not fit in the safety hole on the top due to the curve of the carabiner. - Each of these can in theory consume 3 carabiners - safety, foot loop (on the bottom), haul line. All that said, you can drop 2-4x as much for a competing product that is marginally better (name-brand ascenders will, for example, require less tension on the rope for the ascender to slide through, which requires less minding; they also tend to do better in muddy or sandy environments). All that said, I've used this in canyoning (mostly to ascend to free stuck lines, in some cases planned ascents) and haven't died or had this slip, including on free-hanging ascents. If I were to need something to do dedicated aid climbing, I'd probably swing for something designed in SLC or France, but this gets me 90% of the effectiveness at 30% of the price - a tradeoff I'll happily accept. ... show more

  • Strong 140Kg Cap. Climbing Hand Ascender for 8-13mm Rope - Aborist,Rock Climber, Rescue Use
Although I do not rope climb as a sport, I do have some times when doing rope work where this Climbing Hand Ascender could be very useful. This is made of strong aircraft grade aluminum and steel for the rope cam gripper with a very well shaped hard rubber/plastic handhold. It is 7.5 inches long and about 3.5 inches wide with an ability to support up to 140Kg /308lbs provided the rope is strong & properly fitted. It will accept an 8mm to 13mm rope and provides a closed handhold for sliding upward. The rope is mine and not included. Paliston has great gear. This is CE Certified. It has carabiner hang holes too; see the listing. I Recommend this Paliston Brand Climbing Hand Ascender for Rock Climbing Arborist (Right and Left) for 8~13 mm Rope. It fits my rope well and I'm glad to have it. I hope you’ve found the information and my review helpful. ... show more

  • Great tool to have on hand
Color: Left - Orange
This is my second ascender and the only reason I have this is in case I need a second or a backup. My first one is exactly like this one and its great. I tested the fit and feel and this one performs great. Its used mainly to climb the rope. The teeth bite into the rope very well and I've seen no issues with any of the mechanisms. I used my left to ascend up the rope and my right to pull the slack. Its worked out excellent and Im very happy overall with this ascender. Remember to always have backups in case anything goes wrong on a climb. Trust your gear and be wise and you will enjoy the tools much longer. Safe climbing. ... show more
