  • Whyter out door in-cabinet ice maker
Style: Ice Maker
I purchased this unit almost 6 months ago and was extremely happy with its performance, but then it stopped working. Since we were going away for several weeks, I shut it off. When we returned, I turned it back on and checked on it several hours later and it was back making ice again. Just prior to dinner, I opened up the ice maker door and steam poured out. It red hot inside and the ice bucket was filled with water. After a quick call to Amazon, they told me it was a 3rd party sale and would get me over to Whyter technical support. I was all set for a “sorry I can’t help you”. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised to speak to very lovely person who politely.asked me to explain the problem and take a few pictures of the front & back of the unit and include the purchase & shipping info. She then asked if I would remove it from the cabinet, plug it in and have it go through one ice making cycle and call her back. I called her back and tol her that it did not get hot or cold. It appeared to be dead. She thanked for the info, asked for my shipping address and said they would ship me out a new one within the next few days. A day later she e-mailed me to tell me the unit was ready for pick up and the next day she told me that it was picked up and gave me the tracking info. You never like having a problem with your purchase, but it’s not often that you can say that getting a resolution was quick, efficient and painless. It was. Thank you, Whyter, ... show more

  • Second unit failed
Style: Ice Maker
Unit was great while it lasted for two years. It failed. Warranty purchased stated we had to have the original packaging to send it back, but we were able to make do with our own packaging. They sent a different unit after a month that was clearly reconditioned. It functioned at about 50% capacity of the original one. We would frequently have to defrost the unit and now the unit just won't produce ice. Compressor still works, and you can store popsicles in it, but it won't make ice. ... show more

  • Convenient and free!!
Style: Ice Maker
We purchased this ice maker to replace one that was working great but making ice cubes with PAINT! When we saw this was stainless steel and the freezing tray WAS NOT painted we bought it. It fits nicely in our salon (yes, we have it on a boat) and it makes plenty of ice!! No more searching for bagged iced. It is quiet, nice sized crescent shaped ice and so far running great. I couldn't be happier. ... show more

  • Great unit
Style: Ice Maker
I bought this when my old unit failed. It arrived on time and packaged securely. It was easy to get out of the box and set up. The water line just needed to be pressed into the connector. Was making is immediately.

  • Awesome ice maker
Style: Ice Maker
My wife and I had a Whynter ice maker in our house in NJ for 8 years and never had any issues. We recently moved to Georgia and had a UIM-155 unit delivered and installed . After moving here we had an issue with the unit not dispensing ice. It would freeze too fast and was unable to push the ice out. I contacted JOSE with Whynter and he was extremely helpful. We tried a few trouble shoots which did not work. He then sent me a return label and directions on how to do it. I sent it back and within a few weeks I had a brand new unit back in my kitchen making ice. I have recommended this unit to numerous who are very happy with it. If you ever have and issue hopefully you will get to deal with JOSE he was awesome. ... show more

  • Texas weather... now lots of Ice to cool it down!
Style: Ice Maker
Update 8/1/21: stopped freezing after a little over a year. Still working to get parts or a fix with Whynter. Will report back when I get a response. I changed from 5 stars to 1. Makes me mad to spend so much money and expense to run the water line with its own filter system and it stops cooling. We started seeing black Teflon looking material in the cubes, smelled like burning wires and now not cool. The water is pumping. Family bought the exact same one recently and the wiring and motor are different and not exposed to freeze like my unit. Could it be that there was an issue with last year's model? My new refrigerator has a tiny ice maker and after a while with the counter ice maker, I had to refill and replace every year, I decided to get this one and hook it up to the water line. We put a Brita filter on the line so we will always have clean filtered ice cubes. It's been going a few days and within hours it was full with a huge bucket of ice. It's a little noisy but no more than the refrigerator. I love that it keeps the ice frozen, unlike the counter top ones. We installed it under the counter due to the size and it is perfect. Stainless steel so matches all the other appliances. ... show more

  • Great ice maker - but died after 2 years
Style: Ice Maker
I searched and searched everywhere for a drain-less, under counter ice maker, and this was the only model I could find. So I bought it and installed in my wet bar. Installation was easy - just used a standard ice maker hose (like you use on a refrigerator) and plug it in to an electrical socket. The first day, it filled up completely within 24 hours. After several months, it is running great. The ice is in half-moon shaped cubes, and is somewhat soft. The compressor kicks on periodically to keep it frozen, but since I have it under the counter, I barely hear it (I don't hear it at all when the TV is on). When full, it holds a decent amount of ice (I'd say about one Igloo Playmate cooler full). I can't believe these are not more popular. I don't understand why all other ice makers have drains - so you make the ice, then slowly watch it melt away. Not efficient and the potential for plumbing/leak issues is high. This little ice maker is simple, easy, and cheap. Highly recommend. UPDATE: Bought in 10/2013, in 05/2016 it died. Started making very loud rattling noises any time the compressor kicked on. I took it apart and reassembled, finding nothing loose. That stopped the rattling for half a day, then it began again. It is something inside the sealed refrigerant system, so I can't repair it. Had to throw it out. Should have figured it would not last long given the price compared to competitors. Ran perfectly up till then, so if you're willing to buy something you know will die 2 years later, buy it. Lowering from 5 to 3 stars due to lifespan. ... show more
