  • Powerful indoor air conditioner that comes with extendable window kit
Size: 14,000 Style: Cooling Only Pattern: Air Conditioner
My room was 95 degrees in the summer and I should have gotten this Whynter ARC-1230WN 14,000 BTU NEX Inverter Dual Hose Cooling AC sooner. Installation was pretty easy, though it's large and heavy so be prepared to have a dolly or help. It comes with a window kit that can fit large vertical windows or horizontal ones so you don't need to buy a custom window kit for an extra $50. Setting that up wasn't hard, it comes with 4 plastic pins that snap into place and can be removed with either a tap of a hammer or pliers. It can easily fit windows of 5+ ft tall. AC works really well. It can connect to your smartphone which took only a minute to setup. It also has a remote that you can use as well. The humidity isn't high where I live so there's no issue with water draining so far. It has two outlets though, a bottom drain and a halfway up drain with a hose for constant drain if you wish. It cooled a room of about 500 sq ft from 95 to 70 under an hour in a sealed room. The air it produces feels cold but it has several modes depending on what you need. Auto mode will automatically use cooling or just fans depending on your temp set and the temp of the room within 5 degrees. It also can dehumidify the air but I haven't used that since its not humid. Ultimately its a powerful AC that you can remotely activate via smartphone or set a schedule for if you want the room cool before you get there. The only downside might be that its loud if you're nearby and the fans are on high. On low fan speed, you can work right next to it and its tolerable. ... show more

  • Well made and energy efficient unit that blows
Size: 14,000 Style: Cooling Only Pattern: Air Conditioner
Purchased to replace the Samsung 12000btu unit that's was 15 years old. Used to cool a bedroom that is always the hottest room in house due to the sun hitting it and old construction. The AC cools the 18*20 room from 75 to 67 in about 1/2 hour. We found no issues so far. It's super quiet as long as you allow it to run on auto. On high it's about as noticeable as other units are on low. It has a usable smart interface that works with alexa Google home and IFTTT using various voice commands. The remote has a temp sensor built in so the air is cool where you want it. All in all were paying less electric bill for a cooler room. ... show more

  • Expensive, but I'm happy
Size: 14,000 Style: Cooling Only Pattern: Air Conditioner
As other reviewers have said, I've had a couple portable AC units in my life. I got the black and decker one two summers ago and a couple LG ones years ago too. So far, this one is definitely the best I've had, although it is the most expensive. Portable ACs are always relatively easy to install, this one is no different. The air blows cold and strong right away, it cooled my very hot apartment by a couple degrees in the first 15 minutes. It's surprisingly quiet, even though that was not on the top of the list of needs out of an AC for me. For instance, if I was watching tv while using the black and decker one, I'd have to turn the volume up very high and turn on subtitles. I was expecting to have to turn up the volume when I sat down to watch tv with this AC on for the first time but I didn't have to move the volume at all. I bought this for my large living room and have found that with a couple of well placed fans, this can cool most of my apartment to a livable temperature on a 90 degree day. Unsure about the efficiency right now as I've only run it a few days, I'll try to update with more details as the summer continues. The app is pretty straight forward. I do like that you can run a self diagnostic on it. This is expensive though, and I'll say that portable ACs are not as efficient as the window units. I hate window units personally as I really like being able to open the windows when it is a cooler day and I cannot have the midea-u due to the size of my windows. For the extra money, this one seems to be worth it in my opinion. ... show more

  • AC seems great, delivery not so much.
Size: 14,000 Style: Cooling Only Pattern: Air Conditioner
One reason I ordered this at Amazon was it's quick delivery turn around; ordered June 30th with delivery on July 2nd. Delivery was not what I expected. I stayed home all day on July 2nd. Updates said it would be here, but it kept being pushed back. After 10 pm, I knew it was not coming, but no one from Amazon Logistics informed me. I called customer service at 11 pm and apparently Logistics was shut down so no one could help me track my purchase. On July 3rd, I called at 7:30 in the morning and was told they thought it would be out sometime that day by 10 pm. I could not be at home all day again. I left and kept checking for tracking updates. No delivery status was posted until 10:30 am, stating it would be delivered that day by 10 pm. My delivery instructions had asked that it be placed by my garage, which is behind a driveway fence. I had a chance to head home at 1:00 pm and found the AC unit was sitting on my front porch in plain sight from the street. See street photo. You would think they might have placed the unit behind the concrete pillar you see in the pic. What an enticing thing to steal with the temps to be in the 100's in a few days. I did get a "delivery was made email" lime stamped at 12:45 pm, so I just did miss the actual delivery. As to the Wyhnter 1230WN, it appears to be working fine. The increased BTU of the machine has made our upstairs room much cooler than our prior attempts with a window unit and then a smaller portable unit. If it holds up, I feel we will be very glad we made this upgrade. Set up was not too difficult as I had experience with a prior portable AC floor unit. If I had to rely on just the manual, it would have taken quite a bit of time to decipher the written instructions. It did take a bit of fumbling for me to figure out that there were "extra" parts included, so you could put the unit's piping into a sliding window as well as a double hung window. Nice touch by the manufacturer. Just as a note to others. The lower condensation drain plug is very close to the ground. It would be very difficult to empty without getting water everywhere. I ended up using wood blocks to raise the unit off the ground (about 4") so I could fit an "elongated" loaf pan under the drain so I can empty the condensation water. It should do the trick and keep my floor dry. ... show more
