  • Every advertised feature works well!
Style: 4500W + Remote Start
Received this generator inverter a few days ago and tested it a few times as I won’t get to use it too often right away, but I am quite happy with my purchase so far. The battery had plenty of power when I unboxed the generator and the electric start works like a charm. The very first start-up predictably took a bit of cranking (maybe 15 seconds), but ever since the first run, it starts instantly whether the engine is hot or cold. Even when using the recoil starter to crank by hand, it starts on the very first pull! The engine increases power very smoothly as you add electrical loads. Since I am still in the break-in period, I am only taking it to 50% power, but it just never surges and runs very predictably and the power output seems to be quite smooth so far. The noise level in Eco mode is really low and remote control work perfectly. The retractable handle work very well for moving the generator. Small things I like: Having the digital display is nice. I like the rubber cover/mat around the fuel filler cap. The instruction booklet is well written – been a very long time since I had seen instructions using clear layout and clear language and in good English. One gripe I have that other reviewers have also raised: Filling engine oil is a bit of a chore/messy and reading the dipstick or even reinserting/screwing in the dip stick is a bit awkward. Overall, so far am quite pleased with my purchase! ... show more

  • Nice generator in a compact package
Style: 4500W Dual Fuel
My iGen4500DF was delivered to my garage the day after I pushed the order button. The box was in perfect shape with no evidence of abuse during shipping. And so is the generator, which was very well packaged with molded styrofoam. Unboxing and getting ready for its initial startup took me a couple of hours but is relatively straightforward. The plastic panels you need to remove to get at things seem durable. Replacing them was a little fiddly until I figured out which tabs go in what slots, etc...not a major issue. Using the supplied oil funnel was messy, so next time I'll use my own with a piece of tubing to reach the fill tube. The plastic dipstick wasn't that easy to re-thread into the filler neck with oily fingers, so I switched to a Chinese aluminum dipstick with magnetic tip, and it works much better. I removed the spark plug to squirt a teaspoon of oil into the cylinder. The supplied wrench really doesn't work in that confined space, but my 3/8 ratchet with 6" extension, u-joint, and spark plug socket made it easy. I pulled the engine over slowly a few times with the recoil starter before and after replacing the spark plug, hooked up my bbq propane tank, hit the starter button, and she fired right up and ran smoothly. Initial exhaust smoke cleared up quickly. For initial break-in, I let it run for 20 min. with no load, then plugged in a 1500W electric heater to give it up to 25% load off and on for another 40 min. I'll add more loads to bring it up to 50% over the next 4 hours of break-in. I'm pleasantly surprised with the noise level, and it's easy to move around for setup and storage. Everything is working great and so far I'm quite satisfied with my new generator. ... show more

  • Great little generator!
Style: 4500W Dual Fuel
This is a nice compact generator, and it's very quiet. I like the dual fuel feature because I can take it anywhere and use propane from my RV if it runs out of gas. The remote start is a great feature to have! Very nice generator for the price.

  • Westinghouse iGen4500 - So Far, So Good
Style: 4500W + Remote Start
I'm a little hesitant to write a review with only slightly over 20 hours of run time, but feel it's appropriate considering the varied opinions offered in other reviews of this generator. I will attempt to update the review if something changes. First, total props to Amazon for the delivery. One of my biggest concerns was shipping damage. Amazon delivered on time and in pristine condition. The box looked untouched and the delivery driver handled it with great care. The Good: - Appears to be a well thought out design, but with a clear effort to minimize cost. That's not all bad, but I believe somewhat gentle treatment will be required to ensure longevity. - Incredibly easy start up. Add oil and fuel, connect battery, turn fuel on and start. I was actually startled by how fast it started. - Fuel consumption seems very acceptable. It sips fuel at idle with no load. I have no concern with being able to run RV a/c overnight. The large fuel tank was a positive consideration in the decision to buy this generator. - Fuel fill port is large, easily accessible and the rubber mat around it makes fuel spill cleanups easy. - Noise level is low. - The extendable handle makes it easy to move around - The data display is helpful, although 3 fields regarding remaining fuel seem redundant. I particularly like the total run time, voltage and wattage readings. - There is a rubber plug in the machine housing, just below the oil drain plug. Removal of the plug made the 20 hour oil change a reasonably clean and simple process. I had no trouble accessing the drain plug with a short 10mm combination wrench. - Customer support - Pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to contact customer support. First guy was basically a jerk, but fortunately we got disconnected (or did he hang up?) while I was trying to get the serial number. The second call was a refreshing experience. Michael ( I think) was incredibly professional and helpful. I got answers to the few questions that I had and several other helpful bits of information. Totally satisfied with that second call! The Bad: - The product literature is pretty bad and outdated. It does not match the machine that I received. Apparently revisions were made to the product design, but the literature was not updated to reflect the changes. Revised manuals are not available, but will, supposedly, be available by the end of 2020. - My machine had a different control panel configuration from that in the manual. - The manual states that the LED Data Center display automatically rotates through various fields and does not provide lifetime operation hours. My machine has a small button that must be pressed to change data fields and it does include lifetime hours. I think both of these functions are improvements, but the manual should match the product received. - The manual instructs one to add entire bottle of supplied oil before the initial startup. My machine would not hold the entire bottle. Fortunately, because of previous reviews, I knew not to follow those instructions.I packed rags around the fill port and topped the engine up bit by bit until full, thus preventing a big mess. - The manual makes no mention of the rubber plug beneath the engine drain plug and actually instructs to tip the machine to drain oil through the oil fill port. While that will work, it is certainly more work and will result in a mess. - The location of the oil fill port almost guarantees a mess in the bottom of the machine housing. I pack rags around the fill port to collect the oil that WILL be spilled during oil check or fill. A better housing design would have have an easily cleaned space (similar to that beneath the engine oil drain) beneath the oil fill port. - After the first few hours of operation, I noticed a light film of oil covering a large portion of the rear housing. While it couldn't have been more than a few mils, it was still concerning (I'm sure oil was not over filled because I actually used a level to confirm the machine attitude during initial fill). Hoping that it was just some excessive assembly oil that was blown back by the cooling fan, before the next start, I meticulously removed as much of the oil as possible. I was pleased to find very little additional oil after running another 16-18 hours. Time will tell... Conclusion: - The user manual should match the product received. The manufacturers web site should, at the very least, contain current and relative information for the product sold, including bulletins when revisions are made or issues identified. I despise "Ship product, we'll worry about providing customer support later" approaches to business. - Appears to be a good value relative to competing machines by Honda, Yamaha, Firman, etc. - I find great similarity between Westinghouse and Onan portable generators, so I suspect that they're made by the same company and private labeled for both. - So far, so good... ... show more

  • Quiet, reliable, clean power source
Style: 4500W Dual Fuel + Remote Start + CO Sensor
Bought for our RV at the recommendation of our son-in-law. This generator is ready to go and will meet your RV's power needs. It's very quiet and the remote allows you to start it early in the morning when the RV is cold. You can heat the RV up and have a cup of coffee before you need to go outside. On shorter trips the dual fuel allows you to use the RV propane tanks for fuel and not carry a separate gas can. ... show more
