Nice little crock pot - I bought it to replace my previous West Bend unit that I'd had for 30+ years (the Teflon was getting ugly, so time to move on...). There are a couple reasons why I like this rather than the more traditional crock pot with the big ceramic pot. The first is that it has an adjustable temperature control, so you can select any degree of heat, not just warm, low, or high. The second reason is that the pot can be used on the stovetop and then put on the warmer plate. So for recipes that call for you to brown the meat in advance, a single pot will do. Also, the pot itself is lightweight and easy to pick up and wash. That's the good stuff. There are also two downsides compared to my older model. The first is that the pot is really too lightweight, so when you stir something in it on the stovetop, it tends to spin around. That wouldn't necessarily be an issue, except for the second problem, which is that the "handles" - really just little flanges on the sides of the pot - get really hot, so you can't hold onto them without a potholder or oven mitt. My old model had real plastic handles on the sides of the pot, and these were easy to grab onto without burning your fingers. And here's just kind of a nit and many might disagree, but I'm just not enamored of the rectangular shape. I feel like it inhibits that circular stirring motion that we all use when moving ingredients around in a pot. But that's just me. ... show more

Owned one of these that lasted 15 years. This one however worked great first two times when I had the setting at 5 you could see the broth bubbling around the chicken. Then by the 3rd time at the same setting food was not ready after 6 hours in fact it took 12 hours before food was nice and tender. Currently have chicken breasts that have cooked for 24 hours and they are just now tender. Very disappointed! This used to be a great product. ... show more

when I received this cooker I hand washed it and it looked good. Used it for the first time yesterday to make vegetable soup. Noticed some large black specks floating in the soup... poured the soup down the disposal and inspected the cooking bowl. Large pieces of the coating had flaked off. I hand washed it again and more of the coating came off. I don't know if that coating is toxic or not... but it looks terrible. How do I return it to Amazon? I am 83 years old and handicapped... I don't leave the house. ... show more

This is my 3rd one. I wore the other 2 out because I used them sooo much. This one is a lovely color of red. The bag is very stylish. I needed the carry bag because I often take food with me to parties and potlucks. What I love about these is that I can use the pan on the stove top to brown my meat before slow cooking the rest of the day. Or if I forget to put the food in the cooker I can bake it in the oven and then place on the slow cooker and keep warm until time to serve. The base can also make 2 grilled cheese sandwiches. It's great for the camper too. Very versatile. I also love the new glass lid with the knob on top. Much easier to remove than the older dome lids with the glass (hot) handles on the sides. The metal pan allows me to brown my meat on the range top before setting it on the base for slow cooking sealing in the juices. Also I can bake in it and then place on the base to keep warm until time to serve. As others have said the metal pan is not as thick as the ones made back in the 80s, but what is the same quality any more. I got my first one in the 80s and it lasted about 20 years until the electric gave out and the Teflon started chipping. The 2nd one I bought was a lighter weight pan. I got it about 10-15 years ago. I am replacing it because the Teflon is just now peeling and the plastic lid is cracking. I always hand wash it and use silicone tinsels in it so I don't scratch it. I use this cooker 2-3 times a week. I use it for everything I use a slow cooker for - soups, meats, veggie dishes and more. I love the temperature control. I can turn it up high to cook faster or low to keep warm until time to serve. ... show more

I used to have one of these and wore it out. I was so excited to find again. I'm keeping and have already used because it's my favorite cooker. I brown the meat in the pot on the stove and then put on the base to slow cook all day. My disappointment is that there are no handled on the pot now, the pot is about 50% thinner and the base is lighter as well. I would pay more to have to have the same quality as before. I may check on Ebay if I can find the original one in new condition as I'll wear this one out in 3 months. ... show more

I ordered this slow cooker as I had multiple versions over the last twenty-five years of this exact brand and size. I inherited a rather large crock pot in the divorce that was too large for cooking small meals and way too big to handle. I am so happy with this slow cooker again. It's easy to handle, wash and store. It cooks meals so easily. I may buy one to store away if they have quit making them too have down the road when this one goes out in many years. I also attend pot lucks quite often so I'm sure the insulated carrier and snap-on lid will come in very handy! Highly recommend this product! ... show more
