It does not look or feel like an old school plastic waterproof cover-- it doesn't make any awkward crinkly noises that suggest you put a tarp under your sheets. It fits very nicely on the mattress and layers neatly under sheets. I've washed and dried it a couple times and it's come out just fine. It does have really deep pockets for the corners so you shouldn't have it coming loose when you toss and turn or get up. It appears to be great quality and I am very happy with it so far.
