Description

An Inspired Re-creation of a Tube Mic Icon Warm Audio's acclaimed vintage- inspired compressors, preamps, and mics have famously upset the pro audio price/performance ratio. So, when the company turned its attention to the granddaddy of large-diaphragm tube condenser microphones, you knew it had to be good. And indeed, it is. With its discrete, transformer-balanced vacuum tube circuitry and custom reproduction capsule, the WA-47 nails the huge, bold sound of the beloved and revered '47 — a sound heard on countless iconic recordings. Flash back to any top recording studio in the 1960s. You'll see the venerable '47 everywhere. It was Sinatra's vocal mic of choice and one of George Martin's go-to microphones on Beatles sessions, and it now occupies a lofty perch in the pantheon of the greatest microphones ever made. It's this classic circuit design — dating back more than half a century — that Warm Audio closely followed

  • It works
I have two mics by Warm. This one I found to be very husky and dark for my voice and really anything else I put thru it. My suggestion and solve, replace the tube that came with it with a vintage tube like a telefunken. That changed the game and after spending a little time and research on other tubes, I landed a vintage telefunken and it became a favorite mic. I would have purchased just the wa251 mic had it been available a few years ago but i'm glad I have both. For my guitars and for live bass and vocals I swap between the two or use the two mics in tandem often. I have received lots of complementary remarks from tracks recorded with the 47. Do your research and good luck. ... show more

  • This U47 will make you feel all WARM and fuzzy
+ The best microphone I ever had; this mic has brought my recordings to the next level. I highly recommend it. - The power plug could plug into the power supply a bit more securely; but once you see how to put it in it stays.

  • Sell all you other vocal mics
Sell all your other vocal mics. Period. There is not a single voice I have found that this mic does not sound great on.

  • Unimpressive
I had high expectations given the rave reviews. It looks great and has a nice heft to it, but… It is so noisy. Subjective signal to noise ratio is unsatisfactory whether I connected it directly to my apogee symphony or via WA-73 pre. The sound was warm but didn’t have a natural roundness to it. I don’t think this mic is anywhere close to the vintage ones other than it’s appearance. ... show more

  • Tube failed too quickly
The mic started having issues. I sent an email to Warm Audio to get a diagnostic but customer support is non existent. They don't reply my emails!
