Yes it is a heat source. No, that is not a problem come Oregon winter. It is 15 pounds so it doesn't move around while you sleep. Doesn't slip to the floor with your movement in sleep. I wake easy, noisy neighbors, animals, worry over money, life... Since putting this on my bed, I wake but fall back to sleep quicker. I'm sleeping now, I just wasn't. I purchased this blanket as a gift to my mom. She really love it. First, it’s ready to use, I don’t need buy a duvet cover. Second, I bought 12lb twin size, the weight is perfect for her. She has depression and anxious, most time she wake up many times throughout the night. After using this product almost week, her sleeping problems have been improved a lot. This blanket is so nice!!! I tend to get cold easily at night and everyone else likes to keep the house cool, so I needed a big heavy blanky to crawl under when I’m freezing. I really didn’t expect the material to be this soft. The weight is really evenly distributed, like it’s sewn into place and will not bunch up over time. I really like this blanket. It's heavy, but it's not hot. However, I'm 220 lbs and I got a 20 lb blanket (the description said to aim for 10% of your bodyweight). It's a little too heavy sometimes, but if I put nothing on top of it, just a sheet and the weighted blanket, it's pretty good. I would just like to be able to put a comforter over it for appearance and to keep the weighted blanket clean. Anyways, I would recommend it. Was it worth $100? It has been a week so I will update if my feelings towards this blanket change. But what I thought would just be a crazy shot in the dark (based on the research I have read and not really knowing how weighted blankets could work) quickly changed my mind. Doesn’t take more then 5 mins to start feeling more relaxed. It is easier to fall asleep and stay asleep. It does take sometime to get used to especially when you turn over at night. Still shocked how this blanket doesn’t get hot at night. Live in Phoenix so only one hell fire summer will truly tell. I would recommend this blanket.
