Originally developed as the perfect wood burning surface, Basswood Planks are chosen for their clearer appearance, free from most naturally occurring characteristics commonly found in our Rustic Basswood Planks. Each plank is unique in size, shape, and personality for creating one-of-a-kind crafts, art, custom signs, home decor projects, hobbies, and more. Refer to the photos in this listing to see the variety of natural characteristics these cleaner pieces still offer. So versatile, they can be painted, decoupaged, stamped, engraved, and carved. No chemicals are used in manufacturing our planks, making them an excellent choice as plate chargers and serving platters for DIY events like picnics, parties, and weddings. Proudly Made in America at Walnut Hollow in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, each piece is kiln-dried and sanded smooth. It's then inspected to ensure the natural bark edge has been well-maintained before careful shrink-wrapping. The width of each piece is 9" to 11"; length is 13"; thickness is 5/8".

The pieces look good. Nice and wide. Plenty of space for a design. But the listed measurements say it is 13×11×2.5 inches and I'm not sure where that 2.5 inches is supposed to be because they are about 3/4 of an inch thick. I'm using it for relief carving so that extra thickness was the selling point for me. Other than that, they look great and I'll still find a use for them. ... show more

Edit: It's unfair of people to dock this company points for some pieces of wood being smaller than they expected. Wood is a natural product and being such it will vary in width and appearance from plank to plank. If you are buying in bulk, expect differences. If I am ever looking for a specific width, I will typically order 3 or more and usually always find exactly what I need among those that arrive. I have been using Walnut Hollow products for a few years now and will never buy Basswood from anyone else! The wood is always perfectly dry with none of the bark separating, and takes paint REALLY well. I use it specifically for my woodburning art. The price on this wood is right too, everyone should be buying this stuff! I particularly like how there is still a uniqueness to each piece as there should be with wood :) Every now and then I get lucky and get a piece that has curly figuring! ... show more
