Description

This pendulum movement will fit a surface that is up to 3/4-inches (19mm) thick. It is ideal to repair a treasured clock or even to design your own pendulum clock to decorate your home or as a gift. Almost anything you can drill a 3/8-inch (9.5mm) diameter hole in, can be turned into a clock if there is room for the pendulum. The most important thing is to select a movement that closely matches the thickness of the piece you are using to make a clock; this one has a shaft length of 3/4-inches (19mm) and so will fit a surface up to that thickness. The minute hand is approximately 2-inches (50.8mm) long, the hour hand is approximately 1.25-inches (50.8mm) long and the Pendulum is 9.625-inches (244.5mm) long. The motor swings the pendulum in a natural looking arc. The quart movement requires a AA battery which is not included which also. Full assembly instructions are supplied. From the Manufacturer Clock Movement for 3/4" thick surfaces. Comes with Gold Clock Hands. Uses 1 AA Battery (not included).

  • Works well - very quiet - Note oblong hole on minute hand
The media could not be loaded. I used this to replace a movement on a clock my brother-in-law had made for us. I was able to reuse the hands from the original movement (I prefer black), then add the gold sweep second hand from this kit. This was one of the few kits that had a press-fit hour hand and an oblong hole for the minute hand, the same as the movement I was replacing. I needed to add a little spacer behind the movement and bend the hands in slightly to clear the glass housing. It has been keeping time perfectly. I also don't like the ticking sound of a pendulum clock. I don't know if it is because the clock hangs slightly forward (not flush to the wall) on top, but it runs very quitely, which is what I wanted. ... show more

  • I converted my wind up clock to quartz.
I have a 40 year old 8 day Westminster chime school house clock with a mechanical wind up movement that's been in storage for a decade because it didn't keep time anymore. On a whim I decided to use this kit to convert it to quartz. I had to use a makeshift spacer because the shaft was too long. And I used a sharpee to paint the new gold hands black. And the the old hands didn't fit on the shaft. I used the original pendulum as well. So far it's working. I had to put tape on the winding holes. It makes a faint ticking sound. I don't miss the chimes because I had them turned off most if the time anyway. I glad I don't have to wind it anymore and its good to see it on the wall again. A replacement mechanical movement is about $275. So this is a good cheap temporary fix. ... show more

  • Clock working!
Never thought I could fix a clock, and never even thought to try till I researched buying a mechanism on amazon. Thanks to all that reviewed this as it helped me to see that even I might be able to install it. When I looked at this movement and the directions it was a snap. The clock has sentimental value more than monetary value and it was great that we could get it up and running. It is wonderful to have this clock hanging back on our dining room wall and lovely to see the pendulum moving back and forth again. This set was easy to install and very reasonably priced. ... show more

  • Super deal for the money spent!
Two things I wish were changed. The battery should be in a separate holder with a few inches of wire. After installing the clock head it is very hard to get. The battery in and out. Possibly Clocking could make a remotely mounted kit? Second, there should be a backing nut on the mounting shaft. It wasn't all that hard to shim the clock so it was snuggle mounted, but did take a few washers used as shims. In my case I wanted the pendulum a little longer, which was a trial and error method. Worked out OK and we are very pleased with the results. Have had it for about a month now. Purchased a second clock works for a ships clock and barometer set. Clock repairman quoted $120 to look AR T this clock, and more if fixed. My $12 replacement makes me smile every time I check the time. ... show more

  • Effective repair
I was asked to see if I could fix a friend's clock, a nice and obviously expensive piece, but it uses a simple standard mechanism like this. The old unit looks like it was damaged by a leaking battery and cleaning up didn't fix it so just ordered up this guy. Somewhat unfortunate is that the pendulum movement (which is independent of the timekeeping function, it's just cosmetic) does up the price a fair bit.. Actually, I did encounter a problem, this new movement would stall after every 6 seconds. I know I could rely on Amazon to replace it if necessary, but decided to investigate further, and found the problem was a very tiny piece of crud stuck in a little gear that would stop on every rotation, which translated to 6 seconds. I was lucky that the crud was black and the gear white, so it was visible. Cleared that outta there and it ran fine. I've wrestled with knocking a star off the review on the basis that there could be a quality control and/or testing deficiency here, but this seems like such an offbeat and probably one-off problem I'll let that go. Installing the mechanism was otherwise straightforward, but did use the original clock's hands and pendulum, it all fit just fine, and the lady is happy. ... show more

  • Nice but high priced
These pendulum kits are all the same however this one was high priced compared to the others with no better quality construction to it and as a matter of fact the hands were short small and flimsy so I use the ones off the broken kit that I took out also this one and all the other pendulum kits have pendulums that are not adjustable and they are making them too short for many of the clocks so I took off a star for that too because the older ones were longer and adjustable simply by breaking off and inch or two or three if you needed too make them shorter. ... show more

  • My review follows
Replaced a 100 year old heavy all brass windup w/long pendulum with this kit. Had to modify some of the support in the cabinet and all went well. Would recommend this kit to anyone with minimal skill.

  • mine did not work either (check recent reviews)
I received it fast, thanks Amazon Prime! It was not too difficult to replaced the movement from my clock. It fit okay, I had to take some extra parts out of the old clock. When I put a battery in, it did not function at all. I tried different batteries, but nothing, no movement, nada! After checking the recent reviews it appears that these were once decent items, but now they either don't last long, or as in my case, do not work at all. Update: I bought this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001O992WS It came in a nondescript box, with the components in little bags, but it works great. Even with a rechargeable battery without much charge left, the pendulum swings like it is never going to stop... :) ... show more
