I was looking for a clock with a night light. Seeing the atomic option, I thought, "I'm in!" Goodness gracias this clock is pretty at night. By day it's somewhat institutional looking, like you might see in a classroom. But at night this clock takes on a personality that you would never dream of. The white, pinched face becomes a glowing blue, and the bold numbers are no longer the blotches of the day. They are shadows, winking at you in a subtle, but obvious way. They have put on their party clothes and gone dancing. If anything, they seem more visible in the dark with the teasing way they attract attention. Oh, I can see the time alright. I'm mesmerized by it. This clock has some sort of spirit in it, living, breathing, cunning, Is it friend or foe? Well, it's a little bit spooky anyway. Without reading the instructions, I installed the batteries, then turned the clock over to see if the second hand was moving. To my horror, the whole clock had taken off. All the hands were moving in a mad dash to get somewhere. Where, oh where would it end? Of course it ended at midnight. Where else? That was spooky too. I turned it over to attempt to set the current time. No way. There were strange, alluring little buttons with the letters "P M C E" above them. Could that possibly be the time zone? Let's just press C. Oh, the clock wasn't done. There was another row of letters "D S L" with a toggle switch underneath. Yes no maybe? From the core of my being the words welled up, "Day Light Savings." I played with the toggle switch and turned the clock over to see if it was still telling me it was midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. It was still midnight in the Garden. It would be midnight forever. And so I decided to set the clock aside until midnight, when I might be able to talk sense into it. And then, unseen by me, the spirit of the clock took over and set the clock to the exact correct time after being left alone for around 10 minutes. There is something invisible in the air that whispers to the clock in a secret voice and language known only to the clock and its invisible companion. "Who are you?!" I cried. But there was no answer. I gazed fondly at the clock's white face, all sulky in the daylight. The second hand moved, as second hands are supposed to do. But this one didn't tick. It glided ever so smoothly. So the whole clock had unnerved me, yet I put it on the wall. And guess what? When the dreaded time change arrives for day light savings time, this clock automatically adjusts. ... show more

exactly what I needed. the night glow is so soft that I can easily see from my bed about 14 feet away and doesn't hurt my eyes at all. has a soothing effect. tried few before didn't work for me. this one is really amazing. Well made, keeps accurate time, but I bought it because of being able to adjust the brightness at night in the bedroom. The problem is that even the ‘dim’ setting is too bright for sleeping! It's a great 12" nightlight! I’ve bought two since the dim setting didn’t work at all on the first one…the second was too bright for my use. Returned them both. ... show more

I like this clock, it's great. Always on time (well, almost). It seems that the automatic Daylight Saving Time adjustment is not timed up with the US. The time has already fallen back an hour (for the last week or so). Maybe it used the Palastine DST model (second to last Thursday in October).

Purchased this for the RV, where even in low, it provides enough light to tell the time and (barely) light the way to the bathroom. Not for a bedroom where you want to maintain the darkness, IMHO, but perfect for a dim nightlight and timekeeper! Mine set itself in 20 minutes. Nicely finished, seems sturdy with a pretty nice face and plastic lens. Has a though-low-off switch for tbe backlight, which only turns on when it’s getting dark. I placed this clock in my kitchen and it looks nice. The night light also works great. It adjusted itself after I inserted the battery. I don't know how long the battery will last. It is also quiet. No disturbing ticking sound.
