It definitely allows water and air to get through. I not mulched it yet but so far rain has not pudled. The weeds are growing up under it and they are lifting the fabric. Time will tell if weeds go through it. I am hoping to get it mulched tomorrow. Maybe that will kill the weeds growing under it.

Last year I designed a Japanese garden and put what was purported to be "the best weed guard" down before laying the rock. But, not only did grass, weeds and sprigs of privet still pop through, the "best weed guard" frayed terribly and had to be replaced around the edges. This summer I made another Japanese garden and used this product under the rock; NOTHING has penetrated it. This weed guard is the best I've ever used. Despite its thickness it's easy to cut and lay out, stays in place once it's laid and it's very durable. I used the pins that were included and they went through the fabric with very little difficulty. I'm making a rock-bordered walkway with a mulch base in the spring, and this will be the weed guard I'll use. NOTE: I would NOT recommend it for use in a flower or vegetable garden unless it's only used between the rows and not around the base of the plants. ... show more

I am very, very disappointed with this product! I have ordered two rolls of this landscaping fabric to rework an area in my yard that had existing plants, shrubs, day lilies .... a large area that had existing fabric that had been in place for over 25 years and had a buildup of decay and weeds had overtaken. I removed the weeds, dirt build up and old fabric. The plants, shrubs, and day lilies remained in place! I spent numerous hours placing this new fabric that had boosted a 20-year life. I crosscut openings and pull the plants through the holes and anchored down this new fabric and was happy with the fact that my landscaped area would be protected and weed free for many years I was so proud of my efforts!! Well, the rest of the story is this fabric did not do what it was advertised to do... Instead of years of protection that I was anticipating the area is already covered with weeds ...not even four months of weed free coverage. It seems that the fabric had more needle point material than plastic that only retained moisture and allowed the weeds to grow and penetrate the fabric. Please be aware of my experience and think twice about using this product... now I have to clean up the mess and spend many hours again placing landscaping fabric that works! I wish someone from the manufacturer of this product would come and help with this headache of a redo! Fat chance of that happening... I guess its buyer beware!!! ... show more
