  • short term use and failed
I bought this scanner based on reviews to scan family pictures. I scanned 85 pictures. I was unable to get windows 10 to recognize as per the directions included with scanner so I took the mini sd card out and plugged it into the computer to transfer the images. They all scanned fine and I was impressed with the clarity of the images(done on highest resolution). I replaced the card into the scanner and attempted to proceed scanning photos. The scanner would accept the photo and scanned it using the docking station and auto feed. The image was not saved to the sd card. I turned the unit off and charged the battery fully thinking that may have been a problem, inserted the sd card, formatted it and ended up with the same result. The only other thing I could think to try was to reset the hardware on the scanner with the reset button. Removed the card, inserted the card, set up the unit, formatted the card and tried again. Same issue only now the scanner drive that moves the picture through the docking station will not stop running after the picture is all the way through the other side. Turned the power off and the motor still ran until I removed the scanner from the docking station. I contacted the manufacturer for assistance and have not heard back from them yet. I bought this in June of 2019 and it sat in the box until I actually had time to begin this project. If you purchase this item please take it out of the box right away and use it to make sure it works. I have not inquired about returning it to Amazon because I waited so long to use it I am assuming a return may not be possible. I love the ease of use that I had while it worked and was very satisfied with the image quality of the pictures I successfully scanned. I also love the fact that the images are stored on removable media and direct connection to the computer was not necessary to use the scanner. Great idea but for whatever reason mine decided it had had enough after 85 pictures. Good luck to the rest of you. I will update if the manufacturer responds to my email. Update: With next to no help from the manufacturer I decided to purchase a class 10 Mini SD card as I was unable to determine the class of the card I had without the original packaging. They recommend at least a class 6. I am convinced that hooking the docking station to my computer to transfer images somehow damaged the original card I was using. I was unable to transfer my images through the docking station by following instructions for windows 10 so from now on I will remove the SD card and use the reader to transfer the images to my computer. I have scanned and transferred 1000 images so far and have not had any issues with the function of my scanner. The four stars is for the lack of interest by the manufacturer that I was having issues with the unit and all they could tell me to try was a different power outlet and a different usb port on my computer. I am so happy I got it to work because I looked at many scanners and this was the most reasonable with ease of use and a higher resolution than most. ... show more

  • Good solution for the traveler
This little scanner can save the day as it is easily packed in my laptop backpack and be able to scan anywhere from the power of the usb. Surprisingly, the base actually feeds the paper through real smooth and generally the quality is real nice. It doesn't seem to like a crease in the paper or for it to be bent up but I really do not think ANY scanner likes that. It is super cool that you can just "wand" over something and scan it also. It takes a couple shots at it to get the speed that you need to move down, but very easy. I took off one star because of what might even be perceived functionality and the lack of answers when I have emailed this manufacturer. They give you a disc with Nuance Paperport 14. You can install it, but you cannot use it directly. This was big for me as when I scan something, usually I want to edit it. Very rare do I get something that I don't already get through email with no need to then scan it. The thing with this scanner is that you activate the scanner and it does that, acts as a scanner but local to the hardware device itself. Does not show as a scanner to the PC. It saves the image as a jpeg or pdf which is great but you have to then hit the scan button for a couple seconds which then accesses your memory can which then shows up as a usb device to the PC. The great part about Paperport is that as you SCAN it, the OCR ability takes over and automatically makes fields editable if they are recognized properly. With this you have to do it manually in Paperport or Acrobat if you have it. Small price to pay, not the end of the world but I thought it was worth a star. ... show more

  • Many books are extremely brittle so it is hard to get a good scan without causing more damage
I work for state government. We are in the process of digitizing several old books for archival purposes. Many of the books are 75+ years old, so scanning on a flatbed or copier scanner is impossible without breaking the binding or damaging pages. Many books are extremely brittle so it is hard to get a good scan without causing more damage. We purchased 7 of these scanners for this project. Though it can be a bit tedious, they do the trick. Scans are very good quality and there are several archival dpi options. It takes some getting used too, learning how fast to move the scanner and determining the proper settings for the quality you want, but once you have that down, everything goes smoothly. Each scanner has scanned approximately 30,000 pages, and they are still going strong. Out of the 7 purchased, only 1 has given us problems, and that problem was a faded scan line, nothing major. As a test, we have scanned several other items, colored walls, clothing, purses, and photos and all of them have had good quality, and the color is almost exact. We are using them as a "filler" project, when staff has some spare time to scan. If you are wanting to do scanning in large quantities in a short amount of time, these are not the scanners for you. The only reason for 4 stars is because nothing truly deserves 5 stars unless it does the work for you. ... show more

  • It Works!
This product both annoys me and makes me happy. But it works, and the results make my boss happy, which makes me happy. Please note: this product can ONLY use a micro SD card 8GB or smaller! We had to order one online because our local office store didn't carry them that small. The product itself is simple to use. Make sure the SD card is in, turn it on, place it where you want to start scanning, and then press the button. Plug the connecting USB cord into the computer and then do whatever with the image. The part that annoys me is I have to be careful of the speed I'm scanning, which I'm sure is true with all types of "wand" scanners. Many times I'm scanning older books, and the pages aren't always perfectly straight. Or I scan too fast on a page and a line or two looks all funky! It works well enough, I just don't feel like I'm very proficient with it! ... show more
