We used to be so inundated with robo calls and spam calls that we considered cutting the cord on our landline. But this phone puts an end to all that and once again our home is quiet and unbothered by these annoying calls. Despite the instructions being confusing, two calls to tech support answered all my questions and I was all set up to block all robo and sales calls. Callers must announce themselves and press # to be announced. Once I hear the announcement I'm told I can press "1" to answer the call, "2" to answer the call and place the caller on the safe list so next time their call goes right through with no announcement and they don't have to press #, press "3" to block the call and never hear from that caller again, or press "4" to send call to answering system. There are lots of other ways to add callers to a safe list or a block list, too, but I keep it simple. ... show more

Since installing the call blocking feature, we have not received any spam or robocalls. The way it works is that callers are told we are call screening and they must identify themselves by name and press pound. Obviously, robocalls cannot do this so the call just disappears and appears as a missed call in your call log. When callers identify themselves and the phone rings, we can answer it. The key is that I then transfer these callers into the phone directory and they do not have to go through the identification process again. It's a wonderful protection against annoying calls. The phone is linked to our two cellphones which doesn't do much good. The description seems to suggest that it will ring on your cell when someone calls the landline. In fact, it's the opposite and rings on the landline when someone calls your cell; not terribly useful. I called customer service twice and the agents were helpful and competent.     • A step backwards

We live in Leland NC which has been growing at a very fast rate . With that being said , Verizon Wireless has been extremely slow to respond to the growth so has all of the other companies which brings me to our dilemma . Even though we installed a Verizon provided extender which did help in the house our service is NOT acceptable , dropped calls & at times poor quality (can you hear me now) . So because of the cellphone issues & not much help other then the extender plus 2 emails to the state agency about bad service did we install a landline . Hence the purchase of these phones . We've had Vtech phones in the past & bought these due to past experience . A big screen because of older eyes plus enough features & an answering machine is all we needed . I got this set to move away from one with soft buttons which inevitably break over time. Boy, was I wrong. The design of this set seems purposefully done to torture the user as much as possible. Cons: * The handsets are SLOW to react to user input (e.g. when you scroll through the missed calls, it's slower than one per second). This is by far the worst point, since it affects everything else. * When you enter a number, then pause for a few seconds without dialing (e.g. to look for something), the handset decides it waited long enough for you and erases everything you typed, without any way to get it back other than typing the number again. This might seem like a small thing until you are trying to call a number as you hear the digits from somewhere, and then quickly stop to write down some info you will need in the call. * The missed calls obscure voice messages, so until you clear all the missed calls you won't know whether you have any messages. * There is no way to look just at missed calls, so if you missed one a while ago you have no choice but to _slowly_ scroll one entry at a time through the call log until you find the culprit. * It doesn't have voice announcement. Until now, I didn't realize how useful this was to hear who is calling without interrupting your work to look. * Only a couple of years down the road, the microphones on the handsets mysteriously stopped working. In the darkness of your home, nobody can hear you scream. * No clip to hang it to your shirt while talking and working around the house.
