  • Great phones.
I purchased the D1780 two phone set with answering machine. We had a Uniden 3 phone set with answering machine that worked fantastically for the past 18 years (replaced the batteries every 5 yrs), used daily in our small home business. It started having issues with static/dropped calls etc. so I had to replace them. This set has I believe 5 or 6 different ring tones, you can adjust the volume up/down on the phone for the ringer and for listening to a person when you're speaking to them. On the answering machine base there is a + and - button. If you tap on the minus button several times it mutes the base ringer (but you still hear the ringers on the two phones). One issue we are having is that after listening and deleting all of the messages on the answering system there is a red light flashing. The red light flashing is an indicator that you have more messages, which we don't have as we deleted all messages and the message indicater shows a zero in the message box. Minor annoyance for now. We used to have the system hooked up to a landline in our previous home. Now it's hooked up to an Xfinity modem which I believe is causing the 'red light flashing' issue. UPDATE: finally was able to fix the 'flashing red light issue" on both phones after trying different methods that DID NOT work for our issue: such as going into the Global Setup and doing a VMWI reset, pressing and holding the Find button and some other tips I found online. What DID work: Logging into our Xfinity account online (we have the system hooked up to the Xfinity modem, not a landline. Went to the Voicemail option on the Xfinity account then deleting all the old voicemails we had there. Finally both phones no longer have the flashing red light issue which depleted the batteries on them over time. All in all great phones with answering machine. I purchased AT&T, Panasonic and Vtech answering systems but I would encounter various issues with those brands so I returned all of those. We're happy with this Uniden phone system. I purchased a duplicate Uniden system as a back up because Uniden no longer offers phones. They now sell CB Radios, Scanners, etc. ... show more

  • Phone
It arrived quickly, it was easy to put batteries in each unit. It isn't easy to set up because directions aren't clear in the booklet. Volume control for ring and hearing caller is hard to set. Ring to loud, voice to soft. It is a small unit and the cord for bases could be a little longer especially when placed on a table. Otherwise a good value. ... show more

  • Could be MUCH Easier to Use
5/4/2013: There IS a headset for this phone, the Uniden DHS100 wireless headset. Unfortunately it costs over $40. A jack would have been far more convenient (for users, anyway!). 5/3/2013 Wanted another handset, couldn't readily identify correct model number!! For others' reference, it is DCX170 or DCX170T. Record it in your Users' Guide! Having a little difficulty getting used to incoming call transfer sequence: after paging another unit by pressing Intercom (then selecting unit, then pressing select!), your unit places the incoming call on Hold and YOU lose contact with the caller. On the base, the Speaker light flashes. When the other unit picks up, you are disconnected. I'm always unsure if the outside caller and the other unit have achieved connection, so I wind up cutting in and asking if everyone is there ....Better if caller stayed online with me until other party picks up, then I could hang up. Oh, well. 4/23/2013 I just got this unit, which is replacing an old (but functional) Panasonic with one handset, great range, but- old <grin>. I'll be updating this review over time, I hope, but wanted to get some first impressions down. I'm probably going to do Uniden some disservice, but early comments will mostly be on features it doesn't have, or that don't work as well as expected/ hoped. Pro's: Price is all right. Sets up fairly easily Works pretty much as described, so we are starting to learn it's quirks and operating parameters Nice to be able to set ringtone (and assign rings to numbers) on handset (only). Cons: Manual: pretty bad! Almost as if English was not the writer's primary language, or he'd never written a user manual before .... Descriptions unclear, info missing, critical info in very poor sequences. For instance: (1) handset must be removed from stand to operate (never mentioned)- sometimes it's easier to hit a button b4 picking it up! (2) Using the phone poorly explained, need examples. Handset- have to hit "talk" to start, "end" to end call- ok, but old/ most(?) phones can end call by hitting "talk" again. "End" also seems to terminate other sequences. (3) Removing stand and configuring for desk/wall use obscure; I've done many and approached it as an engineer, so prevailed- but took much longer than necessary. Other items, will fill in as I encounter them again. Phone book: 16 character name limit (not specified in manual). Phone book: no special characters (&, etc.) which aggravates the previous comment when trying to get in a name such as "Doe Jon & Tammy" which has to become something horrible such as "Doe JandT" or "Doe Jand T" (char limit!) or something. Phonebook: tedious to set up- "phonebook-select-edit-select-... details.. -select"; start from beginning for next number. Should have an "Another Number?" option to allow entering many in sequence. Handset ringer: pretty low volume, as others have noted. Base unit is much better. Puzzlers: why can I set one of several ring tones on a handset, but not on the base unit. Belt clip for handset: no provision, as noted by others. Carry it in your pocket while in the yard? ... show more
