    • E1 error Neutral wire wired to ground. Neutral on 14-50 unused.
Like others I got a persistant E1 error. (Unplugging and plugging in again like the manual suggested did not make a difference.) To be fair I must mention that I purchased this via Amazon Warehouse so it likely could be the same exact device as one of the previous reviewers. It also did not come with the mounting hardware.. My plug is fine. It works with another 240v L2 EV charger. (We're moving further from the city so the idea is to be able to leave one charger in the car and leave the other plugged in, my current L2 charger can work as a L1 charger with 110v so the more versatile one I'd leave in the car.) I opened up the NEMA 14-50 plug.. first thing I noticed is that it used the ground instead of the neutral. Only 3 of conductors are used. (NEMA 14-50 has two hots on the sides round or U shaped ground and a neutral at the bottom.) This is a bad idea with something that uses this much amperage.. It's basically the same as far as the outlet's logic is. Ground and Neutral will both allow electric to flow from the two hots on the sides. There was a 4th wire conducter that is much smaller gauge, but it was cut without enough distince to be used for anything. maybe in other devices it's used for a thermal shutoff on the plug. This device does not have that feature obviously. The other thing I noticed was that every screw in the NEMA 14-50 plug was loose. I did tighten everything and try it one more time but still got the E1 error. I'm opting to return it rather than deal with low quality or dangerous workmanship. ... show more

Overall it works well and does what it is supposed to most of the time. It has been pretty reliable and easy to use.The charger has very long cable and it is very easy to self install, is small, lightweight and unobtrusive. It has been giving me an E1 error code every single time I've plugged it in. Had the outlet checked. Everything is fine. Been surviving off the stock 110v.

This EV charger's cable is nice and thick, with an industrial-strength feel, and the J1772 connector and cable are the most robust I've seen, with very high quality. I believe the cable will remain flexible even in extremely cold temperatures.
