It's definitely a bit expensive, but to have a dishwasher-safe Vitamix carafe, it's worth it. Very high quality, and the ability to clean and sanitize it, so conveniently, is a game-changer. The old plastic container that came with my Vitamix was starting to look really bad, and I hated having to go through such a laborious process to get it really clean. My only complaints: as a couple other reviewers mentioned, there are some bare edges. I haven't found these to be of any danger as far as cutting myself, but the container is heavy enough that I have to take some care to not slide it across or set it down hard on my Paperstone countertops. The lid, too, is a bit substandard, considering the quality of the carafe itself. The rubber lid from the old plastic carafe *kinda* fits, so I use it instead. ... show more

I ordered this to go with a refurbished 5200 Vitamix (the US version) that I purchased from the Vitamix website. My whole intention was to eliminate plastic from my food prep, and this works very well at that. It's perfectly compatible with my blender, and I'm liking how sturdy it is, and how I don't have to worry about it breaking like a glass jar would (although perhaps it would dent if I dropped it), or it getting gross like some plastic blender jars have a tendency to become. I've used this to make 2-3 smoothies/day so far, I haven't tried anything more heavy duty than frozen fruit, but can report that it works well at that. I'm not at all bothered by the smaller volume, going from the 64oz container that came with the 5200 blender model, to this 48 oz container. Both are very roomy for my purposes (smoothies for 1-2 people at a time). I thought it would be annoying that the stainless steel would prevent me from seeing the progress of the blend, but the transparent plastic lid eliminates that concern. My smoothies tend to be very thick, and every now and then, an air pocket forms and lets the blades spin without blending the ingredients. At first, I thought this was my blender failing, but it turns out I just needed to manually mix the ingredients a bit to return them into contact with the blades. The first jar I received had scratch marks on the inside, and a small dent on the mouth. I was sent a replacement, which doesn't seem to have these same problems. I wonder if the first jar I was sent was previously owned. I will admit that I stressed quite a bit over this purchase, as ~$150 seems so expensive given that there are much cheaper blenders out there, let alone blender jars. However, I figure this is made worth the price given that I do use this multiple times per day every day, and assuming that plastic is a health concern. I'll now have to expand my blender recipe repertoire to really get the most out of this purchase. ... show more

As a big Vitamix fan, I've been coveting this stainless steel jar ever since I first saw it in Williams-Sonoma. Price drop here made me finally pull the trigger and I'm happy I did. This is stain proof, dishwasher safe and very sturdy. A lot heavier than the normal jar, this does include a snap on clear lid, with removable center piece, and a tamper. While not ideal for mixing things you need to see the blend on, it's great for storing in the fridge or freezer to keep things extra cold, and utterly indestructible by party guests. And I feel a lot more comfortable blending hot soup in stainless, rather than plastic. It also cleans up very easily. Feels tank-solid and works great with our Vitamix Pro 750. (The box says it fits all full size Vitamix blenders.) Not essential, but really nice, in both form and function, and a great second blending jar for times when that comes in handy. ... show more

My son is on a feeding tube so we have to blend multiple times a day. After our 3rd plastic container cracked we decided to try the steel even though it was way more expensive.
