I tried wood turning in high school 50 years ago and decided that it would be something I’d try again now. Bought a small bench top lathe and a very inexpensive set of HSS turning tools. I did okay with them but there is a learning curve attached to each of those tools as far as tool rest height and angle of the tool meeting the piece. Ordered this four tool set of carbide tools the same day I brought the lathe home. When this set came in I couldn’t wait to get them to the lathe and try them. I had watched a lot of YouTube videos about carbide tools and I followed the advice to have the tool rest back more than normal with the other tooling and the tool set at the center line and parallel to the floor. That’s exactly how they work best and I turned the mallet in no time while trying all four tools. Highly recommend this set for beginners. The only real downside to this set was the box they arrived in had been handled pretty rough. The outside packing box had no damage but the box that contained the tools was very cracked up, tools were not damaged at all. I contacted the seller and they responded very quickly and are ready to give me a special deal on any future purchase. Great company support and great tools! ... show more

Original one star review: Came in the mail the other day and I was really excited to try them until I saw one was broken. I did not want to use them as one of the chisels turned up in the mail broken and didn't want to void any warranty or try to fix it until getting confirmation that nothing could be done. These are brand new and should come in full operable factory condition, after years of heavy use I could see them splitting but not showing up broken. The shipping and storage box showed up in amazing condition though! This leads me to believe that it was broken before getting put in the wooden box. My guess is going with assembly line lack of quality control as other lower reviews have the same issue. Outside of the broken part, they do feel pretty sturdy, nice handles, and appear sharp. They come with a protective wax over the pre-installed carbide tip so that was impressive. The storage box is pretty decently built and padded so that is a plus. I sent the seller a message here on Amazon and will be glad to update this review pending their customer service. Update 9/20/22: I am holding to my word to update the original review and I just have to give them 5 stars for their customer support. Everything was seamless and ran through with absolutely no issues. The seller was amazingly fast, very understanding, and extremely polite. Customer service was top notch and the replacement tools came in just a few days. According to my husband, who they were originally for, said that they were nice and tight, nothing broken, and cuts like a hot knife through butter! Same packaging as before, very secure, no dings or issues, came in a padded box, and everything was neatly put inside. He makes pens and other things out of acrylic and has been wanting a carbide negative rake chisel set for some time. The pictures of his finished products speak for themselves on how much better and efficient these are when he is shaping acrylics on his lathe. I highly recommend them as a seller, and my husband definitely recommends the tools as he loves these chisels. Good weight, great for beginners (that's me). Storage box was pretty flimsy, but what did I expect for what I paid? Would have been nice to have a carry handle. Inside packaging was good. However, I got them with small chips in the round and square blades. You get what you pay for ... but they were good enough to work. Otherwise, cuts like butter. Have 3 more sides that don't have chips, so I'm satisfied for the cost. ... show more

I never write reviews but I am VERY pleased with these tools. I bought an old lathe that came with a couple of steel chisels. They didn't cut at all. These carbide tools are very substantial and they cut through wood like butter (although I've just tried pine so far). They are very affordable and easy for beginners to use. I plan to use the lathe a lot now. The only strange thing is the box refers to instructions but none were included. ... show more

I already have many wood turning tools and needed a specialty tool so I decided to try this set. Bang for the buck it is well worth it. Comes with an aluminum handle and three carbide tips. For the price you cannot beat it. I would highly recommend for a beginner to wood turning. Great tools at an affordable price, and customer service was fast and fair! I ordered the 4pcs set, when it arrived the pear cutter was shattered to pieces (they put a protective rubber on the blades to protect them but apparently UPS rose to the challenge). I emailed their customer service and got an almost immediate reply with a more than fair proposal. The tools themselves are very nice and work well, especially for the price! I recommend giving them a shot if you are like me and want to try carbide tools for the first time without spending a small fortune. I have only used them for a couple days now and still love my HSS tools but these are a great addition and will see plenty of good use in my shop! ... show more
