When it comes to tools, I have always believed in the old adage "Cry once or cry many times". Quality tools are expensive and you will cry at the time you pay that price, but you will be so happy when you use them. I have been turning for over 10 years and final purchased a Sorby set. They are without a doubt one of the finest turning tools available. Very sturdy and keeps a sharp edge longer than other tools.

Good overall. HSS is tricky to learn how to sharpen, but this is a good set for beginners and gets decent quality lathe tools for less that it would cost to buy them individually. Good for spindle turning more than bowl turning, which is usually where beginners start.

I read some other reviews that these are Grizzly chisels? Maybe I Read wrong but these are certainly Robert Sorby chisels made in Sheffield England. Top Top quality. You cannot go wrong with it. I believe it was shipped by Grizzly though... came in a nice box. Nothing wrong with them whatsoever. You can plan on sharpening these before use to whatever angle you desire - this is standard for all turning tools that are bought brand new. I also read someplace else someone complaining they weren't sharp. They aren't! But that is par for the industry. You have to sharpen them yourself. ... show more

Nice, solid set. Still need to learn how to sharpen them but they carve very well and it's nice to have the set.
