  • Awesome except for one thing....
Style: Steve Gadd Signature Wood Tip Pattern Name: Single
I've been using these sticks for years now and love them. However, if you are a drummer who likes to use rim shots you'll notice some black dust on your snare from small amounts of paint that come off due to the rim shots. Not a huge deal, but worth mentioning here.

  • Not for everyone, but "almost" perfect for me!
Style: Steve Gadd Signature Wood Tip Pattern Name: Single
Wow. Just wow. For years I used vic SD1. It's a big heavy stick and it's exactly what I needed to play the hard heavy stuff. Then I got decades older and the music I played was lighter, sometimes acoustic, sometimes small venues, and maybe more importantly, I wanted to feel the music not smash my way though it. So I opted for vics 5a and for awhile it was OK. Better than OK. But the stick didn't fit some of the songs we were playing. So I ordered a 7a. Oh I live 2 hours from the closest music store so I did trial and error with my friend, Mr Amazon. At first I hated the 7a. Felt like a baby stick in my hand. I marked up one 7a so they were mine. Tossed them in my Closet thinking never to be heard from or seen again. About a month later a new pair of hats showed up and I pulled out the 7a's to hear and feel the difference between 5a and 7a in the hats. The 7a won out. But the 7a still felt small in my hands. I got used to it though. Then I saw the gadd sticks and said let's give them a try. This stick is the absolute perfect stick for me. Longer than the 7a. A tad shorter than the 5a. More bulk than the 7a. Not much. In fact very little. But the stick feels a lot larger. And get this, the stick feels lighter than the 7a, but feels bigger than my 5a. Sure this might not make sense. But it does to me. The feel of this stick in my hand is wonderful. The absolute best. The sound off the hats and cymbals is superb. The rebound on these sticks blows the 5a away The one caveat, if it is one, if you cross stick, plan on the black paint chipping away. I crash with the tip of my stick but I have noticed how easily the plant flakes off when cross sticking. One more thing. If you like to see the VF flag to find the perfect rebound point, you don't want these sticks. The silver writing, with the flag, will disappear once you use the sticks. For me the flag and the bottom of the writing was gone after a 2 hour show. No biggie for me though. Otherwise I love this stick!!! ... show more

  • Simply the best sticks I have ever used
Style: Steve Gadd Signature Wood Tip Pattern Name: Single
Simply the best sticks I have ever used. I shopped around a bit on drum sticks over a few years. Tried medium sticks (5a), heavier sticks (5B, Jason Bonham signature, Gavin Harrison signature), and lighter sticks (7a, 8d), and a few more than I played for such a short time that I don't even remember how to characterize them. Then I found the Gadd Signature a few years ago and I haven't looked back. The instinct is to play these lightly, and they work magnificently for that purpose. You can play a symphony on your ride with the dynamics, and your hands will fly around your kit with precision. But you can, surprisingly, also get some heavy hits without losing any of the response, which puts this stick in a league of it's own. If you listen to Gadd's drumming, you know he's a master of playing with groove and subtlety, but he's also great at blasting out heavy fills that give life and energy to songs. These sticks capture that juxtaposition, and so strike the perfect balance. I've recommended these many times, and I've yet to have a disappointed friend. ... show more

  • Fast lightweight sticks
Style: Steve Gadd Signature Wood Tip Pattern Name: Single
These sticks are good for what they are, nothing overly special about them.... they play nicely. Sound Quality - They get a nice sharp hit. Sound is really dependant on how you play them. Functionality - These things are really light weight to me. At first I wasnt sure If I could use them cause they felt like air. After playing them for a bit, I got used to the extreme lightweight and now I am playing fluidly with them. These sticks are made for metal. No resistance and quick as it gets. Reliability/Durability - I have beaten these sticks to hades and back and they are still in great shape. 5 stars all around here. Price Value- I tend to think in comparison to other sticks these may be a buck or two over priced.... but its sticks man, they are are cheap and these will last. In summary, I like them and I use them quite often. I think they are slightly over priced but hey we are only talking a buck or two at most. ... show more

  • great weight and balance
Style: Steve Gadd Signature Wood Tip Pattern Name: Single
I switched to a heavier stick to play my electronic drums but then tried the Gadd stick. It is my favorite of all the ones I have tried over the last 50 years. Great balance and weight... it has helped my control. Give it a try!

  • If you're a thumper don't read this.
Style: Steve Gadd Signature Wood Tip Pattern Name: Single
These sticks are the bomb if you like light weight, low mass but substantial feel and impeccable balance - a bit like Steve really. The long taper gives these a lovely balanced feel in the hand & the barrel tips articulate nicely especially when you're doing speed work around the kit, none of that feeling like you're throwing logs around. They have got a bit more hard wearing over the years, or maybe I've just developed better technique so my only gripe is that the tips tend to strip out with heavy playing. But that's small cheese against the sheer playability of these babies. Perfect for funk, jazz & soul where precision, accuracy & balance are key. When you've gotten over hammering your kit & have learned some subtlety then these will be waiting to seduce you. ... show more

  • Great, Surprisingly Durable Sticks
Style: Steve Gadd Signature Wood Tip Pattern Name: Single
I played with these sticks a while back at a jam session with a couple of buds and the sticks were just lying around so I tried them out. That day, the sticks were completely bitten up and shredded and I still loved the weight and feel of them in my hand. If you are thinking of grabbing a pair of sticks that provide a very unique feel and balance while playing both harder and softer styles of music then the Steve Gadd sticks are for you. Please note that these sticks are wood tipped, and the other model with plastic tips, although probably fine, I have not played with. If I were you then I would definitely buy the wooden tips over the plastic because of the better initial cymbal sound that they create. ... show more
