  • LOUD! If you want to add another level of volume with brushes, these are it!
These added the sound I was missing. Whether these are right for you depends on your ears. These are loud compared to regular brushes. There is a noticeable "Clack" and the "Swish" is also very loud. These fit in with louder bands or styles. Or you can use them on more textured heads like bongos to get another sound out of the drums. I have regular wire brushes from Vater, Cajon brushes from Vater, Live Wires from Vic Firth, and Broomsticks from Pro Mark. These Dreadlocks are on the loudest end of my brush spectrum. They are louder than my live wires, but don't get hung up on my metal percussion pieces like my Engelhart Reco Reco or Meinl Turbo Crasher. ... show more

  • Excellent
These are some of the coolest stick inventions ever. So many different ways to hit cymbals and drums. A bit heavier than brushes, and the teardrop shape of the braids at the end create all sorts of interesting sounds on cymbals. Experiment you must, young Jedi. Strong is the Force within these.

  • Textures textures textures
Cool addition to your drummers toolkit. I'm getting some cool sounds and having a bunch of great rythmic ideas influenced by Jo Jo Mayer. One this is that after two months of medium usage, one of the dreads came out, but other than that, they are holding up okay. Had them about a year now.

  • They project much better then regular brushes
Well made. Very unique sound. I use them in an orchestral circumstance when brushes are needed. In a large orchestral situation if the piece calls for quarter notes on a ride cymbal with a brush, I use these. They project much better then regular brushes. I haven't had an opportunity to use them other wise. ... show more

  • Great idea, but doesn't fit the music i do
Saw some videos of these with Jojo Mayer doing drum & bass licks, great. He makes it look easy, it's not. Not so great for the genre I play either, a little t0o hard sounding. But for other styles or players, they should be fine. Very well built and tough, loud. I'd recommend for heavier hitting styles. ... show more

  • Vic Firth Dreadlocks
They do work, but are not for quiet songs. They're very loud on the drum head and give it a much different sound than regular brushes. They also tend to scratch up the chrome rims on the drum. I would recommend trying them out somewhere before purchasing, to see if they're your cup of tea.

  • Super sound and concept
I love the Dreadlocks as they are extremely versatile in all that they can do. They are like regular drum brushes on steroids! A must have in any stick bag. Check out Jojo's YouTube videos on dreadlocks to get more ideas in how to incorporate them into your drumming.

  • Just what I needed!
Well made, sound great, but may be a bit pricey. We will be using these on a washboard. Great sound!
